Whew--that was a much better ending to a month than the beginning was. To think we had snow and ice just a few weeks ago. And now everything is in full bloom, with gardens in and first early harvests. Amazing.
Worked today. Nicely busy, with a quieter afternoon.
My ankle was not comfortable this morning. I rewrapped the ace wrap this morning, and I realized as I was on the way to the J.O.B. that I had forgotten to take the motrin and tylenol before I left. Not good. I took it after I got there, and it wasn't too long that it was feeling better.
Ice tonight and more motrin. Guess I'll have to be careful tomorrow to pace myself. *sigh*

Worked today.
Busy.
My ankle started to make itself known about halfway through; and after another dose of motrin and tylenol, it just felt "tired". I managed to work through the end of the day, and I was happy to clock out ant get home.
Ice on the ankle, it's finally feeling better.
Tomorrow I get to do it again.
*sigh*

A very light drizzle off and on today.
I took the van to the body shop for an estimate of deer repair. Not as much as I thought it might be--just over 2 thousand. Now we wait for the adjuster to approve it.
A lovely massage with Leah this afternoon. She evaluated my ankle; she thinks probably a couple ligaments/tendons torn, and maybe a fracture or two. She thought it looked good for being two weeks, and cautioned me that it could be several weeks to several months before it's mostly healed. I'm good with that. I think it's dong well , and it will continue to heal as each day goes by.
Fixed supper, cleaned up the kitchen, and a quiet evening.
Tomorrow is a meeting in the afternoon.

Worked today. Well most of it.
We had to staff down this afternoon, and it was my turn. Which was ok, as my ankle was feeling a little stiff, and I was just ready to be done. I clocked out at 2:30.
I got home and had a snack before fixing supper. I tried a stir fry type of veggies with quinoa and almonds, with a little sesame oil. Different, and very yummy. Go Me!!
A quiet rest of the evening.
Tomorrow is a massage in the afternoon. Sure looking forward to that, and wondering what Leah will say about the ankle?? She started as a rehab nurse.

Monday 05.26.2014 Memorial Day
The day for remembering all who have served. So many people I know--and have known. Some still serving. To each of you, THANK YOU. We have, every one of us, our own experiences, and how military service has affected us. Some more profoundly than others.
Today was another glorious day. Sunshine, blue sky, fluffy clouds. The bird bath was a busy place this afternoon--I had to put more water in it after they had splashed it out. At one time they were one after another, lined up, it seemed, to get in the tub.
I made a shelf and put it up in the garage. I was just going to push the unused "other" portable dishwasher that was in the garage to the end of the driveway when Frank arrived. Cool--he and I rolled it down together, then he left, as he just stopped in to say hi. I put a sign on it "FREE" and then created a post on Craigslist under Free stuff. An hour and a half later it was gone. The guy saw it on Craigslist. Huh!! That worked pretty good!! So I deleted the post! Thank you, internet!
I also did laundry, and straightened the basement a bit. Sure will be glad to have that back room finished so I can put it back together.
My ankle was a little puffy this afternoon; I iced it after a shower, and I'll ace wrap it again tonight.

What a great day today!!
Beautiful blue sky, gentle breeze scented with lilac.
This afternoon I worked out in the garage--moving everything, sweeping, putting the winter stuff away (I sure hope there's no more snow....) and making the summer stuff accessible.
I also brought the plants up from the basement and placed them outdoors. They got trimmed up and had a good soaking with the Miracle Grow. I'm pretty sure they're happy out there.
Supper and ice on the ankle.
Tomorrow I have a couple ideas that I might do outdoors. Or maybe do something indoors. Or both.

What a great day today!!
It was a beautiful drive to Diane/Lois' this morning. J & P were there already and had made a great start on the basement. T & KS were soon after Frank and I arrived, and S & D finally got there. Everybody found a niche job, and we were ready to fix lunch before too long.
Many thanks to Frank for providing the meats, Jim for being Grillmaster, and all of us for pulling together and working through a big job. We had a pleasant afternoon, finishing the job as much as allowed, and enjoyed the fellowship of family. Way to go Us!!
A safe drive home, thank you God.
Frank went on to visit friends and watch the fireworks.
I fixed a snack and iced my foot.
Pleasantly surprised that it looked so good this evening after standing on it most of the day.
Tomorrow is house chores.

What a wonderful day today!!
Slept pretty good, especially this morning. To my surprise, when I looked at the clock at 0650, I thought I'd close my eyes for another half hour or so, and get up at 7:30. Ha!! 0953!!!
Got up and going. Breakfast, then out to join the shoppers at the grocery store. Yup, it was busy. But I did what I needed to do, and got everything except the blueberries, which were sold out.
I had put up the hummingbird feeder before I left--and there was a bird on it when I got back. Yay!!
The rest of the afternoon/evening, I did food prep, ate supper, iced my ankle.
The ankle is better this evening; I sure didn't feel good initially. My foot felt stiff. Tylenol and motrin helped some, and I just did what I had to do today. Tonight it looks better, and the ice feels good. I'll ace wrap it before going to bed.
Tomorrow Frank and I are going to Flushing to help move furniture and stuff. If you haven't heard yet, Lolo and Diane had an electrical fire contained in a wall last Saturday late night. They are both safe, and Lois is at Donna's while Diane is getting the logistics of the house settled. Although there is no electricity at the house, she does have municipal water and sewer, and great neighbors who are helping. The electrician is going to rewire what needs to be rewired, and we are going to help get ready for that job. Of course, that means holes in the walls and ceilings, which means drywall repair and drywall dust, so everything needs to be covered. A big job to be done, meeting there at 11 tomorrow.
I'm off to bed.

Ordinarily, I would struggle about being floated off to another unit. Especially with a compromised ankle.
But I went to pediatrics to "sit" with a patient. She was a very sweet young lady, and I have to say I enjoyed my day with her and the opportunity to NOT run the halls all day.
God gifted me, once again.
I stopped at the store on the way home for a couple items. I settled in after getting home, unwrapped my ankle, and have had ice for an hour and a half or so.
Still has darker areas on the top of the foot and base of the toes, as well as below and just behind the ankle.
And a little tender.
Tomorrow I'll probably not do a whole lot, trying to catch back up with the ankle. I do want to go out for fresh foods.

I made it through the work day.
My foot wasn't too uncomfortable--ace wrap, a dose of ibuprofen and acetaminophen before leaving home, more acetaminophen, another dose of ibuprofen--
And tonight, I removed the ace wrap to look at it.
Hmm.
A little more swollen along the outside edge of the foot, and more/fresh discoloration along the top and around the ankle. Iced tonight, and elevated.
Had a good work day. Not much in the sitting down arena today. Finally had lunch about 2 pm, and was able to sit about 5 pm for about 45 minutes.
Tomorrow I get to do it again.

How lovely to got into my own bed last night!
I slept fairly well, hearing the phone ring at 0600 asking could I work. Um, No. I felt punky enough that I didn't go in for the meeting, either.
My throat is sore and not sure about the ankle. I hope it's ready for J.O.B. tomorrow.
I've iced it, elevated it, kept the anti-inflammatory on board. The throat gets worse and better through the day, with clear nasal drainage. Ugh. And I feel really sleepy.
I enjoyed the fragrance of the lilacs this afternoon, along with the birdsong. So beautiful.
Hoping to feel better tomorrow.

Monday 05.19.2014 Home...
I didn't write last night--I ended up leaving Jeremy, Jenny, Matilda, and Lola the dog about 2:15 pm Sunday afternoon. Matilda had a bit of a temperature in the morning that came down some with the ibuprofen. She's still chewing on her fingers and kind of whiny. I thought it would be best if I left, and left the family to their afternoon together, before the beginning of the weekday routines.
We said our good-byes in the driveway. I was in the car with the door open and Matilda reached for me. Jeremy handed her over; I told her I was going "home", and that her car seat was in Mommy's car now. She moved to look back there--and looked back at me, stricken. She hugged me and looked at me. We talked for a few minutes and I told her good bye, that I'd see her on the computer, and Jeremy took her back. I closed the car door, buckled the seat belt, and backed out of the driveway. As the realization crossed her face, she had a very sad face and cried. *sigh* I waved and blew kisses and went on my way.
Sure, it was hard to leave. It was a busy week with her. And I loved every moment of it. I'm so thankful to have had that opportunity.
I drove about 9 hours yesterday, stopping in Mineral Wells, WV about 11:30pm. Getting checked in and settled in the hotel room, I ended up not writing.
This morning I had breakfast at the hotel, and by the time I got all situated in the car again, I was on the road about 11am.
A beautiful blue sky day, and a 5 hour drive that took 6, what with cities and a car crash being cleared on the highway. I made it home safely, thank you God, and am unloaded, unpacked, iced on the ankle, and developing a sore, reddened throat. Ugh. I hoped I wouldn't get sick, being around children like I have been--storytime times three, and a 20 month old full time. Let's hope it's short-lived.
Tomorrow is a meeting late morning.
I came home to the lilacs in full bloom and the warm fragrance wafting in through the windows. Ahh, Spring.
Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Poor Matilda hasn't been sleeping well since the 'rents came back. And we 3 adults are thinking it may be her teeth. Chewing on her fingers again, pulling her ears. Wailing.
Tonight she woke after sleeping after an hour or so. I went in to tend her--she was standing in the crib, crying, slack-jawed, with that pitiful look on her face. I picked her up, and she tried to settle, but to no avail. I asked Jeremy if she could have some ibuprofen, and he brought it to her. And she preferred to rock with her daddy. 40 minutes or so later, she's sleeping. Those 2 year molars are rough coming in.
We did have a good day today. We went to a small petting zoo/horse stable on Hilton Head--Lawton Stables, I think it was. Just right for little people. She had a blast with the one deer that followed her around, and the chicken that had feathery lower legs and feet like Foghorn Leghorn, the cartoon character. The cow moo'd, the chicken clucked, the sheep baa'd, the goats bleated, and the horses neighed. As she heard the noises, she'd repeat the sounds. She's pretty smart!!
From there, we washed up, and found an ice cream shop. At first she didn't want anything to do with it. Then she took a small taste from Daddy's ice cream. She was all about it then. For a few minutes....
We got home and fixed supper and ate, and this evening I was able to ice my ankle again. It felt pretty good walking on it today. I think it's healing as it should. Thank you God.
I am strongly considering leaving tomorrow, to let the family have the rest of their day to themselves, before the work week starts. I'm sure going to miss them.

We had a great day today!
A cool start in the morning--high 50's--that really felt good to me. 'Tilda and I went out for a few groceries and enjoyed the blue sky. She is so sociable right now, saying hi to most people she sees. And most people reply back with a smile.
When we got back to the house, it was time for a snack, then rest time. She slept almost 2 hours, while I caught up on kitchen chores then iced my ankle.
Of course she was hungry when she got up, so she had a snack while I prepared supper. And we ate.
We were outside just starting on a walk. I wanted to try again, to see how the ankle would function. Lola in the lead, Matilda in a large three-wheel stroller, and me trying to keep Lola from pulling me on the leash. I heard a motorcycle--there are many here--and saw the parents coming around the corner.
They're Home!!
Yay!!
Matilda wasn't so sure for a half hour or so, and was clingy, but when we got in the back yard, she started running and squealing!! So funny.
Jenny and I continued on the walk with Matilda and Lola. I was slow, but able. I think, overall, it's doing well. And since the parents are home, I iced my foot again about 8 pm while Jeremy opened his many birthday cards. Thanks to all who sent them. He smiled and laughed and enjoyed them all.
Not sure what we're doing tomorrow. And I'll be leaving Monday, or maybe even Sunday. We'll see.

Another great day!!
Matilda and I went to a different library branch for another story time. Today's story time was attended by about 20 children, most of them between 1 and 2 years of age, and their adults. Ohmygoodness, they were all so cute, so busy, and giggly. This group reads and sings, and the three selections were ones Matilda was familiar with. They had a large "parachute", lots of toys, and a bubble machine. It was the best of the three story times this week.
Our day translated into a gloomy, rainy off and on, not much of a nap kind of day, which made it challenging for me to keep her on the happier side of life. We put our bathing suits on and spent a lot of time in the large soaker tub in the master bathroom. Ha!! We had a blast! Reinforcing the kicking we had done in the pool earlier in the week, and her getting more comfortable in deeper water. And it was helpful for me to be off my foot after keeping up with her all day.
My foot/ankle is better. The swelling is improving, I was able to ice it this afternoon (while she sat with me and we looked at little people youtube videos), and the bruising is casting that awful greenish-yellow hue. I left the wrap off during the night, wrapped it for the day, off while in the tub, and wrapped again tonight. I'm considering taking the dog on the walk tomorrow. Poor girl, nobody came to walk her between rain showers this evening.
I've only got a few more days here, then I've got to head back north. I hope to leave this humidity behind. The air conditioner runs like a furnace in a Michigan winter.
Tomorrow's adventure--grocery store. Wa Hoo!!

Another great day!!
Matilda and I went to story time again at the library. She was a lot more comfortable with the familiar faces and location.
I've been able to ice my foot twice again today. The swelling has gone down nicely; the "damaged" area (?) remains full and tender and warm to touch. I keep it ace wrapped, but might try taking it off for a while during the night. I can always put it back on....
Finally got a break in the temperature here. The hot, humid, sunny afternoon turned into an overcast, breezy late afternoon/evening with showers that turned into rain.
Tomorrow we might go to another story time, at a different branch.
So loving my time here.
Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Hugs.

Another Great Day!!
Dang it's hot here. High 80's and high humidity. People and pets do not stay outdoors during the day. Activity picks up after 7 pm.
Matilda went with her weekday care provider today. I took the opportunity to get a few groceries, refuel the car, do a load of laundry, and shop vac'd the laundry room. It's a small thru-way from the garage to the kitchen and had not had much attention for a while. I also iced my foot for an hour and a half this afternoon, as well as this evening.
The foot is better, swelling decreasing, but my gait is still not normal. I realized today that I wouldn't be able to work with it like this; 12 1/2 hours of being on my feet.... The things I've read on the internet say that a sprain/strain will heal within a couple of weeks. Tomorrow will be one week. I return to work next week Wednesday. Sometimes it's hard to be patient to let the body do what it needs to do.
Not sure what we're going to do tomorrow. Maybe story time again.

Another great day!!
Matilda and I had a great breakfast, and a great lunch, and a good dinner. Interesting perspective, caring for a 20-month-old after (has it really been 35 years since I've done this??) a long period of time. And to think that she's "one of my own". I love loving on her, and she's been snuggling with me. *sigh*
We Skyped with Jeremy and Jenny this morning before going to the library for story time. We had fun.
She looks really big here, but she's just a bitty thing.
Tomorrow Matilda is going to her weekday caregiver for a few hours.
My ankle seems to be healing quickly, although it was gently throbbing most of the day today. I probably shouldn't have walked the dog last night. Not sure how far it is, maybe a 3-5 block perimeter size?? I haven't walked that far since last Wednesday night when I injured it. I've been able to elevate and ice it twice today, and it is feeling better tonight.
Several of the neighbors have offered to help, and I have a list of phone numbers. One of them has taken Lola the dog for her walk today. I hope someone comes by tomorrow for her....

Sunday 05.11.2014 Celebrate Moms
We had a great day today!
After a morning with Jeremy, Jenny, and Matilda, Jenny put Matilda down for a nap. And they left about 11:000 on their bike trip.
When Matilda woke, we had a light lunch before getting covered in sunscreen and going up to the community pool. I let her get in at her own pace; she sat on the edge on the steps, kicked and splashed, and finally got to sit on the first step in a couple inches of water. She finally came into my arms and we swished around in the water. Giggling, squealing, loving it. I dunked her a couple of times, and she was mostly ok with it. We got cooled off after a bit (the air temp was high 80's) and she got out. She took my hand and walked the perimeter of the pool--looking at each person there in their lounge chairs, sometimes stopping and saying hi. Almost everyone smiled at her and spoke--it was such a hoot to watch her "work it" as one of the guests had said.
We got back in for a few minutes, and she was done.
Back home, we had a snack, and she was ready for another nap. She ended up sleeping almost 3 hours!!
I caught up on kitchen chores, got supper prepared to cook, closed my eyes myself for a few minutes while my foot was elevated.
Supper went well. After supper they take the dog around the circle for the evening walk, so I did. Not thinking about my foot. It's the most I've walked on it since the injury Wednesday night. I was slow, but I made it.Then we had to water the garden and the plantings he's done.
We read books and looked at kid stuff on youtube, and she went to bed without difficulty about 9:30 (different than her 8 o'clock routine). Maybe she'll sleep past 6...
Tomorrow I'm hoping to go to the library for Wee Read Storytime.
So far, so good.

A great day today!
Jenny, Matilda, and I went to the grocery store. What a hoot! Matilda is chattering to anyone who looks at her, starting with Hi. And she's just so cute, people say hi back.
Tonight we went out for a delectable supper, and she was just as personable.
My ankle is better. I've iced it three times today with a significant decrease in swelling. It doesn't really hurt, though my gait is not "normal". Getting better. Range of motion is pretty good, too. Bruising is looking yellow in a large area above the ankle, and bruised below.
Tomorrow Jeremy and Jenny are leaving on their trip--first time without Matilda. I expect a meltdown or two, and I know we'll be ok.

I made it!!
Without too much difficulty, and patience in the traffic around the major cities (Columbus, OH, Charlotte, NC), I arrived safely at the Putnam Abode around 6 pm, just when I had wanted to. Thank you God for the safe journey.
Matilda squealed and smiled when she saw me, and Jeremy and Jenny did, too! So did Lola, the dog, though she just weaved in and out between my legs several times instead of squealing.
They had the grill ready, and we had supper before too long.
After cleaning the kitchen, unloading the car, and walking around the yard to view their very nicely coming along little garden, it was time for me to put my foot up. I unwrapped it and was surprised to see that it was more swollen, and more discolored. Hmm. Jeremy got me some ice--after an hour or so, the swelling was down some and it felt better, too. Might have to do that again tomorrow.
Tomorrow we're going grocery shopping. Since I've been driving the last two days, I haven't walked much on this injured foot/ankle. We'll see what happens.

Thursday 05.08.2014 Travelin'
Last night after I posted, I made "one last trip" to the basement to get ready to leave today.
And my foot slipped off the edge of a step, and I fell.
I only went down 1 step, and landed on the landing (is that why it's called a "landing"), on my bottom. And my right foot hurt like crazy. I looked at it--yep, this could be bad. I think it would be said that the ankle rolled to the outside, and the foot was sideways towards the middle. Ugh. Funny the things that go through your head--I was wondering if I was going to need "The Button". You know, the can't get up button.
I breathed several deep breaths, and the pain didn't change much. I shifted my position and gingerly tried moving the foot. Yes, it moved. Hurt like the dickens, but nothing obviously broken. I stood up and tried to put weight on it. It hurt, but wasn't too bad.
Yikes.
I put some ice on it until I could get my thoughts together. When I realized my foot wasn't going to fall off, I found an ace wrap and wrapped it, took some motrin (anti-inflammatory) and tylenol (did I say it really hurt?), and went to bed.
I was able to walk this morning, with a limp; didn't unwrap it to look at it, and finished getting ready to leave. It doesn't hurt as much as it did, but I've been taking the ibuprofen and tylenol when it's time, and I know when the tylenol wears off.
I did the errands I needed to do before leaving, loaded the car, and was on the road about 12:30. I was a little slower with the gimpy foot, but I did it.
It was 81 degrees on my car when I left the driveway in Jackson. The drive has been uneventful, thank you God, and I stopped in Beckley, West Virginia for the night. I unwrapped the ankle to shower. Yep--it's more swollen than I thought, and not as bruised looking as I thought it might be. Just a hint of discoloration. Probably tore something, maybe a crack in a bone. I wrapped it back up after the shower, and elevated it, and it's throbbing a little. Doesn't hurt like it did, though. Just a little. And a little favoritism with weight bearing.
Tomorrow I'll finish the drive--GPS showed 6 hours.
Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Another great day!!
Two meetings today--one at the hospital, and one on the north side of Lansing. Both were informative.
Back at home, phone calls, supper, vacuumed the car.
Almost done packing.
A few errands on the way out of town tomorrow, then heading south!
A little anxious to be traveling so far by myself, but I know others who do it lots, and that I'll be ok....I'll stop when I need to, and I'll be spending the night, um, somewhere.
Keep me in your prayers, ok??

Another great day!!
Went out for a run in the windy sunshine. Or sunshiney wind??
Breakfast, and I sat down to look at the internet for a minute, and Frank called wanting to go trail walking with me. Sure!!!
I showered the stink off, and he arrived as I was getting dressed. Good timing!
We went to the Waterloo Recreation Area and walked a couple trails out there. So beautiful! The birds were calling out, and there weren't too many bugs out. We saw several small lavender-purple moths coming up from the ground. And trillium blooming. Nothing like the smell of damp woods in spring.
Back at my house, I did a couple loads of laundry, and fixed us something to eat. We had a nice afternoon together. Thanks, Frank!

What a great day!!
A nice phone conversation this morning. Was just getting breakfast ready when the text request came to Skype. Yay!!
A short while later I was talking "face to face" with Jeremy Jenny and Matilda. The little one was just as cute as could be, and squealed when she saw me on the screen. We played a little and we were both giggling. So much fun. I never would have thought that I would be laughing "interactively" with a computer screen.
After breakfast and my visit with them, I went out for a few groceries. While I was there I received a phone call saying that I needed to come in for the 3-7pm shift that I had picked up extra. Ooookaaay.
Got home, put groceries away, had a snack, and went on to the hospital.
They were busy enough to need extra hands and I did what I could to help. Sometimes it's enough to have someone that can pick up the pieces.
The rest of the evening I spent trying to catch up on the computer stuff. Making a dent.
Tomorrow I hope to run, and get organized for the next few days.
Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Another great day at the J.O.B.!
Made it through the first part of the day; the last 5 hours were crazy. Happy to clock out.
Tired tonight.
Tomorrow is groceries, and I picked up 3-7 extra at the workplace. *sigh*
Cold damp drizzle.
Thankful for thermostats.
And you.

Thursday 05.01.2014 May Day
Crazy weather. Blowy, cold, dripply rain.
But it sure is getting green out there. Yesterday I noticed the green tint in the foliage along the road. Tonight when I went over to my car after work, the trees in the hospital landscaping are blooming. Wow!!! Just like that!!! It amazes me how fast it all happened.
Life at the J.O.B. continues. A "nicely" busy day with enough help, thank you God. And about 5:30 pm I felt like I needed to take a 5 minute nap. I've been pushing through the fatigue since then.
Work tomorrow.
