02.29.2016 Leap Day!!!

Got up, went out for a run. The smell of the wind alternated between snow and spring. It was kind of cold, but the sun had won out by the time I got back in. It was very pretty; I really enjoyed being outdoors.

Breakfast, shower, packed, loaded.

Since the sun was shining, I stopped at the car wash. The guy was brooming the prewash stuff on, stopped, came around to my door to tell me there was a nail in my tire.

Oh, no!

I thanked him and called Discount Tire while going through the wash. When I got over there, they took my car right in and repaired the tire. It was a long half hour, but sure beats having a flat tire along the highway.

Thank you car wash Mike, and Discount Tire Joel, and the good Lord for sending these angels to take care of me.

Exhale.

On the way.

The further south I got, the warmer the sun. Temps low 50's. It was a very pretty drive. Even with the construction slow downs, then the traffic as I got into Columbus at rush hour.

I arrived safely, though, and had a great evening with Jeremy, Jenny, and Matilda. Their new home is even more awesome than the photos could show.

Tomorrow I'll see about getting some boxes unpacked. There sure are a lot of boxes.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 02.28.2016

Another great day!

Had a nice day at the J.O.B.

After some of the discharges left, we needed to "staff down".  There were "needs" in other areas of the hospital, and we had to go "out to the house"  (float) and do what we could to help.

It was my turn to float.

I went out to a room with 2 gentlemen, both of whom had had a lot of birthdays. They needed some extra attention.

Supper trays came; one guy could eat by himself, the other needed fed, which I did.

They were much better behaved after eating.

It was time for me to clock out; I hope they do well.

I stopped at the store on the way home for a few items.

Two loads of laundry done, packed some things for the trip tomorrow, and I need to go to bed.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 02.27.2016

Another great day!

I have a programmable thermostat--I set it to raise the temperature a couple of degrees before I get up.  This morning, the furnace came on, the alarm came on, the furnace went off. I dozed, thinking I would get up when the furnace came on again. (it comes on frequently when it's cold out)  The furnace didn't come on. Hmm. It even felt like it was getting colder.

I'd better go look.

Of course, I had power.  Looking at the screen on the 'stat, it was blank.  Hmm. Batteries??   I pulled it off the wall and looked.  Two triple a's. I was pretty sure I had 2 of that size.  I went to look in the battery collection.  Nope, no AAA's.  Hmm.

I hurried and got dressed, thinking I'd have to be late to work, as I needed to get batteries, get back to the house and put them in, before going to work.  Then I had the idea that maybe there are AAA's in a remote.

I opened 4 devices.  Two had AA's, one had triple a's, though were corroded. The last one had 4 AAA's!!! Jackpot!!!  Now if they have a charge.....I checked. Yep.

Put two of them in the 'stat, plugged it back onto the wall, it powered up, and bingo!  Program memory was retained, and the furnace came on.

Whew.  That heat sure feels good....

On to work.

Kind of busy, and with enough help.

We had a good day.

I'm kind of tired tonight. Hoping for the ring of the phone in the AM.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Friday 02.26.2016

Another great day!

Up, showered, breakfast, off to get the "squeeze".

Ashley was very kind as she "adjusted" me and lowered the plate. Ohmygosh. Don't lower that any further; there's water coming out of my eyes.  "Hold your breath"  Are you kidding???   I can't move, let alone breathe!!

The machine makes machine noises for a second or two, then automatically releases.  Whew.

3 more times.

Each time took me a little longer to be able to move, to breathe, to regroup.

Done for a year.

The images looked very crisp and clear, with the new digital imaging. There's one very bright area of calcification that showed up; I don't think it's new. And usually nothing to be concerned about. The report will tell all...

From there I went over to the "new" house.

I lingered over a cup of coffee, wandering around, imagining. To my pleasant surprise, J & P wanted to come by and see the new digs.

We walked around, taking it in.

Polly pulled out her rubber gloves and asked what kind of help I wanted. And Jim asked if I had a couple of buckets.  He also had his tool bag in the car!  I was surprised, and happy, that they wanted to help.

We spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning. Jim wiped out all of the kitchen cabinets, up and down, finding a few minor adjustments/repairs along the way. Polly and I washed walls and bookshelves, top to bottom. Thank you both so much for coming over. It smells so much better already.

After they left, I washed the floor in the room P and I were in, so that room is completely done, other than polishing the window. I also wiped off the banister going upstairs, and the handrail going down to the back door. I rinsed out our cleaning cloths and buckets, put everything away, and left.

I got home, had a bite, and a quiet night.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 02.25.2016

Another great day!

Still snowing this morning, a little lighter. Overnight my driveway filled in, adding a drift. The snow was up and over the first step of the back porch. I decided to wait a little before going outside.

I contemplated moving that snow by myself. I saw the plow go by, the other way. A little while later, it came by my side of the road. I thought the plow pile didn't look so bad....and then a second plow came by, making sure to shove that snow as far up the driveway as he could.

I'm not shoveling that.  Or even trying to blow it.

I contacted my lawn guy, who said he'd be over. Don't know when, "but we'll get to you".  Great. Now I can enjoy my breakfast.

And after, I bundled up and got started with the "hand work", clearing off the steps, digging a path to the garage, clearing in front of the garage. I had gotten a good car length done when I heard a huge scrape out front. There's my guy, with a running start into that plow pile.

Yay!!

He was only 10-15 minutes moving all that snow. And he cleared behind the van, too. I was only too happy to hand over some cash.

That done, I had to go to the hospital for the annual TB test. I had to take a quick shower first, as what snow I did move got me perspire-y.

I loaded up the car in case the driveway was open at the other house, and I could spend the rest of the afternoon/evening cleaning.

Done at the hospital, I did the drive-by. Nope, just a snow-filled driveway. I went to a parking lot and texted the landlady, who said I was on the list, and he'll be there pretty soon. I went on back home, since it's only about 3 miles or so.  The sun had come out, and it was really pretty, the white snow against the blue sky.

I studied for a while, had a bite to eat, and went back over. Yup, plowed!

I swept the basement floor, dust-mopped all of the first floor, shop-vac'd the stairway going to the second floor, and shop-vac'd the second floor.

I found that the whole house has the film of the dark construction silty stuff, as well as some areas having a light layer of drywall dust, too. So, with a little cleaning, the "new" house will also be clean. I'll be going over after the mamm appointment, spending the afternoon and probably early evening with a bucket and a cloth. I know to pace myself--I have to work the weekend.

I'll probably be looking for some tylenol or motrin before too long....

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 02.24.2016

Another great day!

And what a snow storm!

The snow started about an hour or so before I went out for a run. Yes, I went out anyway. There was already an inch of snow on the ground. Temperature 31 degrees, large fluffy chunks coming down. At one point, the wind brought smaller, icy snow, then changed back to the softer stuff. I was covered by the time I got back in.

Breakfast, and a shower, and a call from the new landlady. We were to meet at 3 to give me a key, but her day care closed and she had to pick up her kids, so she left the key at the house for me. Better for me--I wasn't wanting to be out any later than necessary. I went over to the house, got the key, looked around and took some measurements, and went over to the hospital for the mamm appointment.

At the registration desk, she didn't find that I had an appointment. What!!!

She recommended that I call, and I did. The schedule on their end showed that the appointment was for last week.  Umm, I don't think so.  No reminder call, no missed appointment call?  Odd.  Anyway, there was a cancellation for Friday. That's now my appointment time.  *sigh*

Got home to about 8 inches of snow in the driveway.  I bundled up, fired up the snow blower, and 2 1/2 hours and 2 tanks of gas later, I was almost soaked through, there was another inch on the driveway, the plow hadn't been by yet, and it was the heaviest snow I think I've ever tried to move. The machine did a good job, though I couldn't "cut" a full 24" swath. Sometimes it would get bogged down with even an eight inch swath. I was happy to call it done. Then I used the shovel to get what the machine couldn't. Another bit to get the snow cleaned out of the machine to put it away. And it's still snowing.

I fixed a yummy supper, ate, had a nice phone call, and a quiet night.

Tomorrow I'll have to clear the driveway again, and I need to go to the hospital for the annual tb testing. Maybe the new landlord will have the driveway there cleared and I can get started wiping off drywall dust.

Thank you for reading Hugs.

I got several smaller tasks accomplished today.

And a larger one:  taxes.

Did some reading, went out for errands, took a walk, too.

Saturday 02.20.2016

What a beautiful day!

Sunshine, blue sky, temperature got into the mid-50's.

I went out for a run. The sun was warm, and so was the wind. Still gusty, with a light breeze and gusts that about moved me.

Breakfast and a phone call.

Finally got in to the shower.

Laundry, putzed around in the basement.

Finished another chapter.

A quiet rest of the day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Friday 02.19.2016

Another great day!

Worked with the best co-workers ever. Enough staff. Our Leadership Team provided lunch for us. And we got to eat.

And I clocked out on time!

All Bonus!

Stopped at Menard's on the way home and wandered around, getting ideas.

A windy night.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 02.18.2016

Another great day!

Sure was cold this morning, 10 degrees.

Went to the meeting.  Spirited, fun, planning our education fair. It's going to be another good one.

From there, I stopped for groceries.

By the time I got home, I was hungry. Fixed a nice salad and enjoyed it.

Had a business call, which kind of eased my mind a little, as well as created more questions. We'll figure it out....

A couple of phone calls, and a quiet night.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 02.17.2016

Another great day!

Was surprised to see the road covered in snow again this morning. I was hoping to run on a clear surface. And then I saw a neighbor with a snow blower. What!?!  That much snow???

Guess I'll shovel instead of run.

So I did.

About 3-4 inches of the stuff. The plow went by as I was getting snow pants on. Hmph.

It really was beautiful. Blue sky, white clouds, blue-gray clouds, birdsong. I enjoyed it.

Came in, breakfast, shower, ready to go.

First stop, NEW ADDRESS!!!  Signed a lease, but not able to get in until next week, after the Inspector issues an Occupancy Permit. These owners are city code-compliant.  After she left, I spent almost an hour measuring, looking a little closer, and imagining.  I think it will work out ok for me. Needs a little help in the basement to tighten up the cold air, and the front door needs new weatherstripping of some kind. It's not a lake view, though.  *sigh*  None-the-less, I'm thankful to have found an updated environment.

Next, over to the hospital for a meeting.

Spirited, exciting stuff. We are making a change for the good.

I had a sandwich for supper, waited a bit for the next meeting. This one was a listening event.

Home, and a quiet rest of the night.

Tomorrow is a morning meeting, then groceries.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tuesday 02.16.2016

Worked today, busy.

Called in help after a couple of hours. Early afternoon we called in someone else.  Then we called our "float"ed person back. Yup. Busy.

Home, a nice phone call, and a quiet night.

Tomorrow is appointments and meetings. And I hope to run in the morning.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Monday 02.15.2016

Another great day!

Started off that it was my turn to "float".  *sigh*

So I rustled up a good attitude and went over to the unit that needed me.

The staff was very nice. I asked for a quick orientation, they showed and explained, and was very patient with me.  I helped out where I could, and somewhere about 9:30 I was called back to my home unit.  *exhale*

We had a good rest of the day. And, I clocked out on time!

Tomorrow is another work day.

Thank  you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 02.14.2016

Another great day!

Sunshine, single digits. Brrr.

Checking the email this morning, there was a new "alert" for a home rental. I looked at it, clicked around to check it out a little more (google earth, for one) and decided to "contact".

To my surprise, I received a response right away.

A few emails back and forth, and we met at noon.

I think I may have found a house!

It's not the Lake House, but it is all new on the inside. With a large, 2 car garage, and they are probably going to put a "lean-to" /carport (smile) on when they re-roof the garage. And they're going to re-shingle the house, too, "so it will match".   My kind of homeowners.

I hope to hear from them sometime this week.

When I got back home, I bundled up in my snow pants and went for a run.

Shower, supper, and a quiet night.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 02.13.2016

Another great day!

Pretty cold, in the single digits this morning.

I was able to get a lot of studying done today.  Making progress.

I also cleaned the bathroom.

Frank came over for a visit this afternoon, and was able to fix the "lost" audio on the computer, and hopefully the "lost" printer, too. I haven't tried to reinstall it yet.

There was about an inch of snow on the driveway; I put on my snow pants and shoveled it off.

A quiet evening.

Happy Valentine's Day tomorrow.

Hugs.

Friday 02.12.2016

Another great day!

A laid-back morning. Breakfast, then I went out for a run. Just as a snow squall blew through.

I was dressed appropriately, though, and kind of enjoyed it.

After a shower, I went out for a few groceries,

Supper, and a quiet night.

Thursday 02.11.2016

Another great day!

Woke on my own, about 15 minutes later than the alarm. The alarm that had, mysteriously, been turned off. I don't remember doing it. Good thing I woke up...

The work day was busy, with almost enough help, and a little better pace. I still feel that I could have done more with and for my patients if there had been one more staff person there. I did my best.

Home, and a quiet night.

Hoping for a restful day tomorrow.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tuesday 02.09.2016

Another great day!

Surprised that it was white outside this morning!

I've done laundry, prepared food, cleaned the kitchen. Shoveled almost 2 inches from the "top" and "bottom" of the driveway.  The top is cement and doesn't get as much light, and the bottom seems to be colder, too. The middle is asphalt. I was surprised that the snow had melted there.

Went for a short walk. Did some reading.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Monday, February 8, 2016

Wednesday 02.08.2016

Another great day!

I was slow to get going this morning. In fact, I was surprised that I had a little snooze before breakfast!

Mid-afternoon temperature showed 42 degrees outside my back door. I went out for a run. There was an occasional light wind that almost felt icy, but I enjoyed being out anyway.  So much so, that the sun was peeking out when I got back, and I sat out in the rays for a short while before going in.

I putzed around on the computer, not resolving the "No Audio Output Device is installed" message that shows after an automatic update happened. I also lost the printer ability.  Three hours later, following directions, the only accomplishment was the confirmation that updates annoy me. I think the next step is to contact Microsoft.

Supper, shower, and another nap. Another surprise.

A quiet evening, a nice phone call with a friend.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 02.07.2016

Another great day!

Busy--I really had to work hard to stay focused, steady, on track, flexible, positive, courteous, intelligent, professional, and a desirable employee. Somewhere around 2 pm, I "hit a wall" so to speak. What I really would have wanted to do was to be home, watching a Hallmark movie, with some kind of comfort food.

We were all tired after yesterday; we continued to pull together to give the best patient care ever.

Many thanks to the Best Co-Workers Ever.

I finally finished documentation/data entry and clocked out.

A quiet night.

I hope to run tomorrow.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 02.06.2016

Another great day!

Busy at the J.O.B.. I do think that if I didn't exercise, I wouldn't be able to keep up with all that running up and down the hall stuff.

We had a great group of the Best Co-Workers Ever, and we got through the day.  I even clocked out (mostly) on time!!!

A quiet night.

Tomorrow we get to do it again....

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Friday 02.05.2016

Another great day!

Got up to sunshine and blue skies--aahh, delightful!

Breakfast, and went to Leah's for my long-awaited massage appointment.

I really don't want to wait that long again.  She worked out the tightness in my neck and shoulders, and my feet. (?)   And moved a lot of the fluid that had accumulated in the armpit and over my ribs and back, as well as the wound beds.  Geesh.

Came home and enjoyed a warm shower, and decided to go out for ingredients for a salad for work tomorrow.

Got that put together, had supper, and a quiet night.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 02.01.2016

Another great day!

Alarm woke me to get up and have a little time before a morning meeting. I saw that it was white outside--didn't know it was predicted to snow!

So I checked the weather app and saw that it might or might not melt, and is predicted to stay cold for another week or so. Looking out at the driveway, there's less than an inch on the pavement. Enough that it's going to turn to ice when driven on.

I got dressed and went out and did a quick shovel job, including a light salting of the back steps. They ice over easily; I've learned how to keep them safe. Breakfast, enjoyed a fresh brew, and off to the meeting.

Productive, with good discussions, as usual.

Stopped for errands on the way home.

The driveway was melted. Yay!

A quiet rest of the day.

Tomorrow is, finally, a massage. I missed last month due to the icy weather. The underarm area and wound bed in the breast are sore, full, and have been bothering me since a few days before the missed appointment. Yep, I'm ready.

Prayers to those with losses, and those with medical concerns. May the peace of the Lord surround you.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 02.03.2016

Another great day!

When I woke, I saw that the temperature this morning was 45°, and the sun poked out, too.

The wind was a bit cold, but overall it was pretty nice out.

Breakfast, shower, and ready to go to for the echocardiogram appointment.

Got checked in, and was surprised at how anxious I was feeling. And when the technician, Amelia, called me for my turn, I found that I had to think about the questions she was asking. I was able to answer, but felt a little "dim-witted?"  Not good.  Just breathe.

She was very nice, and adept at what she was doing. I was able to watch the screen as the images and sounds of my heart and blood appeared. Technology is so cool. She also showed me a 3D image of my heart. Just. Wow. Amelia said my images were "good", and that the doctor would receive a report from the cardiologist, who would read this test today. She also said that "we like the heart wall measurement to be less than 1.0, and yours measures 0.6 and 0.7".  That sounds ok to me, though I'm not a cardiologist....

The whole process, check-in to walking out, was 40 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised.

I did a couple of errands while I was out. The wind had really picked up, and was really feeling cold.

Back at home, I fixed supper and ate, cleaned the kitchen, had a couple of phone calls, and a quiet evening.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tuesday 02.02.2016

Another great day!

Enough staff, nice patients, nice pace.

Came home and did more reading than intended...

Tomorrow I have an echocardiogram, a type of ultrasound of the heart, as recommended by the oncologist, to watch for radiation-induced cardiomyopathy, or heart disease.

Because my cancer was in the left breast, the radiation received was directly over the heart. While there was no radiation directed at the heart, just the proximity/closeness of the radiation can cause damage. If I recall correctly, radiation damage can show up later, like 10 years and beyond, after treatment. The heart muscle can develop thicker walls, become softer, boggy, or spongy, and become less efficient.

I'm hoping all is well.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Monday 02.01.2015

Another great day!

Getting ready for work, ring ring.

Call at 0900--you may need to come in.

Back to bed.

Reset alarm for 0830.

And I was sound asleep when it went off. Pulled out of the fog,

Got up and started breakfast, received the call that I would need to come in.  Ok.

Dressed and out the door and clocked in at 10:00.

Someone needed to float. The girl who was already there chose to take her turn, relinquishing her assignment to me.

I ended up having a VERY GOOD DAY (I say in capital letters, because I don't have many "very good days").  I got my work done, helped others, and clocked out on time.

A quiet night, and scheduled to work tomorrow. We'll see what it brings....

Thank you for reading. Hugs.
