Sunday 02.01.2016

Another great day!

Kind of gloomy. Occasionally drizzly, sometimes light rain.

I went out to take the recycling, stopped for a few groceries, then to the car wash.

The rest of the day I read and worked in the study guide. I'm getting there...

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 01.30.2016

Surprisingly, didn't sleep as well as I thought I might, after being so busy. But I did wake to sunlight, which always makes me feel better.

I waited for the day to warm a bit, as predicted. It was actually high 40's when I went out for a run this afternoon.

So lovely.

Mild temperature and smelling like spring. Most of what little snow/ice we had is melted.

Shower, and a quiet rest of the day.

Maybe I'll wash the car tomorrow...

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Friday 01.29.2016

Another great day!

Busy.  Ohmygosh busy.  Each of us, busy.

Fortunately, I had the "right" food with me today, AND was able to eat it. Well, mostly. Some of it. But I didn't get the "hungry, can't think" thing going on.

Finally clocked out, and not in a timely fashion.

I don't go back tomorrow.

Whew.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 01.28.2016

Another great day!

Just a splash of sunshine this morning before the cloud cover moved in. Surprised that the temperature was mid-30's.

I went out for errands early afternoon. The large fluffy clumps of snow were falling as I was finishing and on the way home.

Did a load of laundry, put a meat loaf in the oven (with lots of veggies in it--my favorite).

Had supper, cleaned the kitchen, a phone conversation, and a quiet rest of the evening.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Please keep those with medical procedures/medical issues in your prayers. We all know, prayers work.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 01.27.2016

Another great day!

Waited until after breakfast and the light snow had melted to go out for a run. It was still high 20's, but the pavement had cleared.

Showered, put supper together, ate, and did a couple hours of educational videos. (e-learning, it's called now. I love them--being able to participate at my own schedule)

While reviewing the housing rentals this evening, I saw that the lake property I was hoping to rent has been listed for sale.  So disappointed. I'll keep looking--I'll find something eventually...

Errands tomorrow.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tuesday 01.26.2016

Another great day!

Worked with the greatest co-workers ever, and had a pretty good day, even though it was an odd kind of busy.  I even clocked out in a timely fashion!

Was snowing with a little ice thrown in when we left. I got home ok, but it looked like it could get slippery.

A quiet night.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Monday 01.25.2016

Another great day!

Phone rang--stay home. You may need to come in mid-morning....

I read for a bit then went back to bed.

I was sleeping soundly when the phone rang at 0820.  You need to be here at 10:00...

Ok.  I got up, readied, breakfasted, and off to work.

It was my turn to "sit" with a patient. Which turned out to be ok. I went to lunch a little before 2pm; when I got back, the patient didn't need a sitter anymore, and I went back to my unit. I spent the remainder of the day "floating" around my own floor, helping out where needed. Kind of fun, it was a nice change. Wouldn't want to do it forever.

Clocked out in a timely manner. visited a co-worker who was now a patient, and came home.

A quiet rest of the night.

Tomorrow is another work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 01.24.2016

Another great day!!

I was just having breakfast when Frank wanted to know if I'd like to go to Detroit to the Auto Show.

Hmm, Sure!!!

His friend was driving, and they came to pick me up.  We stopped down in Adrian to pick up the guy's girlfriend, and we were on our way.

Found parking and walked a few blocks over to the Cobo Center.

Lots of people, lots of lights, lots of sounds.  Lots of cars.  I enjoyed looking at the vehicles.  We had a good time.

After, we went downtown to Pegasus for food, which was delicious. There were also ice sculptures downtown, corner street musicians, with a festival flavor. Kind of neat!

A safe drive home, thank you God, and a quiet rest of the evening.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 01.23.2016

Another great day!!

Went out for a run in the sun. Still cold with just a light breeze. The sun felt warm.

When I got back in, I was able to get a lot of the ice off of the driveway from where it had been driven on a couple of weeks ago. I'm odd like that--I like to have the drive and walk ways clear.

Breakfast, shower. And a nap. That surprised me.

Laundry, supper, and out for a few groceries.

A quiet rest of the night.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Friday 01.22.2016

Another great day!

Arrived in Flushing minutes before Sue did. Diane and I went to her appointment, and Sue helped Lois get ready for Lois' appointment. They got back before we did, as D's physician was running behind. But both appointments turned out well.

We girls had a great afternoon. Diane had prepared yummy food for us. After a while, Sue and I left.

A safe drive home, thank you God.

A quiet rest of the night.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 01.21.2016

Another great day!

We were full on the "overflow" unit with a busy day ahead.  My Team mates (aka the Best Co-Workers Ever) all pitched in, and we had a very good day.  Thanks, Girls!

Got home and turned around for tomorrow.

I'll be going to Flushing to take D for a medical test, while her sister takes LoLo to an appointment. The weather is looking good for a road trip...

I'm tired tonight.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 01.20.2016

Another great day!

Cold and snowy this morning. Disappointed, because I wanted to go run on the mostly bare pavement.

After a while the snow stopped. Maybe a quarter to half an inch fell.  And the sun tried to come out.  I decided to go out anyway. And if it was too slippery to actually run, I would just walk. At least I'd be outdoors and active.

I did pretty good, with just a couple of small slips. I believe the yoga helps immensely with the balance and recovery when teetering.

I phoned in to the meeting, which was updates and information about our unit/department, and some general hospital-wide stuff.

After a shower, I went out for a couple of errands.

A nice salad for supper, and a quiet evening.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tuesday 01.19.2016

Another great day!

Sunshine and temps in the upper teens. Still cold, but beautiful.

Went out for the dental appointment.  All is well, though a larger filling is "wearing" and the recommendation is to crown the tooth.  My insurance pays only 50%.  Yes, it's a budget item.  I'll schedule for the procedure in a couple of months.

Back at home, I had a snack, then bundled up and went out for a walk. Jeepers, it was cold.  I wanted to get some exercise, and I also wanted to check out the roads to see how much ice/snow/clear pavement is there.  They were mostly clear, with a few areas of uneven ice.

Tomorrow I'm hoping to bundle up and get out for a run, and there's a meeting in the afternoon.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Monday 01.18.2016

Another great day!!

A nice morning, then went in for a meeting.

Lively and productive, though I started feeling like a headache was coming on.

Had a "stabbing" kind of migraine when I left.  That's different--I usually have a sinus spasm.  Definitely the pain at the base of the skull on the right side, then an intermittent stabbing pain behind my eye that really hurt. Yikes.  Then it was gone, though the neck still hurt.

I went on over to the store for a few items, and had a couple more "stabs".  At home it was the pain in the neck, and this evening is leftover sore in the neck and head. I'd be concerned about the different kind of pain if it wasn't for the neck pain, and the "hangover" feeling I have now.

Tomorrow is a dental cleaning.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 01.17.2016

Another great day!

Turned out to be a much better day at the J.O.B.  It was nice to not feel rushed, crowded, too-much-to-do, can't-breathe, can't-pee, can't-eat.  Got my work done in a timely manner, was able to do a little computer stuff that I can only do there on the intranet. And, clocked out EARLY!!

Single digits on the way home, snow crunching underfoot.

Thankful for a furnace that comes on, warm clothes, a dry roof. The not-so-little things when it's this cold.

Tomorrow is an early afternoon meeting.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 01.16.2016

Another great day!

Worked with the best co-workers ever.

And we were busy.

Finally clocked out almost 8:30. Using my new certification.  *smile*

Tomorrow I go in again.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Friday 01.15.2016

Another great day!

Slept intermittently, as usual. Fortunately the sinus pressure and drippage eased up about 0300 and I rested a little better until time to get up.

I have a raspy voice, and have been fatigued all day, and feels like the sinuses are swollen. Kind of congested with no drainage and mostly mouth breathing.

Went to the doctor for the Annual. Blood work and physical exam were good. I received the shingles vaccine. And will schedule a mammogram, bone density, and an echocardiogram. The cardiac echo is to monitor for heart damage due to the proximity of the radiation on the chest wall.
These tests are what was recommended by the oncologist when he released me from his service, and we're following that course.

Doctor didn't seem too concerned about the respiratory symptoms (that weren't very bothersome while I was there).

On the way home, I stopped at the optometrist and ordered new glasses. Had a bite to eat when I got home, tried to read through my eyelids. I managed to get through about 20 pages before putting the book down and taking a short nap.

The rest of the evening was fighting with the computer. It seemed to have lost the drivers for the speakers and printer with the recent "update".  I finally did a restore to a few days ago when I knew all was well.  And it worked, at least for the speakers. Haven't checked the printer. Go me!

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 01.14.2016

Delightful.

Woke up with sinus pressure and a nose dripping clear fluid. Both annoyances have continued all day.

I enjoyed a home-cooked oatmeal (not the pre-packaged, instant, flavored stuff) at breakfast, hoping the warmth would help the sinus discomfort.

Mid-morning I found myself trying to stay awake. So I laid on the couch and had a short snooze.

The sun was winning the battle for the sky and the temperature was above freezing. I went out to clear the almost one inch of snow that came down after I had finished clearing yesterday. It was very pretty outside, with barely a breeze, blue sky, and birdsong. It didn't take long to shovel the driveway, and I found myself not wanting to go in. So I brought a lawn chair out and sat in the sun, watching the birds at the suet feeder. Very relaxing. Surprised to see bluebirds?  I thought they migrated....

Back inside I drank more water and had another vitamin C. Gotta kick whatever bug this is.  And a hot shower.  Comforting.

Putzed around the house, dehydrating through the nose.

Fixed supper and ate, and had a quiet night.

Tomorrow is the annual physical.  Guess it's a good time to be sick.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 01.13.2016

Another great day!

Kind of a slow morning. Temperature in the low teens did not encourage me to get outdoors to clear snow.

Instead, I fixed a nice breakfast and took my time to enjoy it.

I got outside about 1:30 or so. Properly dressed, it was nice to be out.

The snow blower fired up and did the job. I used the shovel some, too. Cleaned off the machine and put it away. Best thing I've gotten for this house.

Homemade soup and a quiet rest of the evening.

Might go out for errands tomorrow.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tuesday 01.12.2016

Another great day!!

Busy. Again.

Yesterday was a whopper kind of day--this morning, as I clocked in, I felt anxious/anxiety. I do believe it's the first time in 32 years I've ever felt that kind of anxiety about work. Another girl had "stress hangover" too. We decided that we needed to debrief, and tried to take a little time during the morning to re-acclimate. Yikes.  Big breath. The other girl in our job role had a lot of tasks to do, and my own list was enough for me. It was decided to call for help; someone came in and ended up staying for most of the rest of the day. It was great having the third person, and it gave us a chance to even have lunch before 2 pm. Bonus!

We were going along fine, taking care of our patients. We had an afternoon lull for about and hour and a half, then Boom! back into the frenzy of doctors and admissions and discharges and ... ohmygosh ... the next shift is here?!??

I clocked out late, again, though not as late as last night.

The snow is absolutely beautiful.

The snow plow hasn't been through our neighborhood yet, and I was surprised to see a big drift at the end of my driveway as I approached. Hm. Can I drive through it??  Maybe if I back up, change the angle of the approach, go off to the side just a bit, keep the speed just so...I made it. Up the driveway and into the garage.

I contemplated shoveling tonight. I cleared the path to the back door, the steps and the porch. About 5 or 6 inches in the driveway, not including the drifts.

Not shoveling any more tonight.  I'll use the blower tomorrow.

I looked at the President give his last State of the Union address, more for historic value than personal interest. It was hard to pay attention the last 20 minutes or so.

Tomorrow I'll go out and clear the driveway. The plow will probably come by, too. Maybe the timing will be good.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 01.10.2016

Another great day, in a winter storm.

Temperature fell from 45 degrees at midnight to 25 at 0800. Wind almost steady at 18 mph. Light snow showers blowing around.

I did laundry, put Christmas away, read a little. Went out for a few groceries.  Shoveled the path from the back door to the garage door of about 2 inches. I salted the porch steps (the awning drips right on the edge of the top of the porch, and the two steps. It can be treacherously icy.)  in hopes of not having an injurious fall when I go outside.  When I got back from the store, the walk was mostly blown over with snow again.  I'll wait to shovel.

Phone conversation, supper, a quiet night. Other than the windows rattling with the wind, and the shrink-plastic making noises.

Tomorrow is a work day, with the cold getting colder.

Thank you for reading. Warm Hugs.

Saturday 01.09.2016

Another great day!!

I went out to get my blood drawn for my "annual" doctor appointment next week. The lab was kind of busy; I waited about 20 minutes for my turn. When I came out of the drawing area, the waiting room was full with patients also waiting out in the hallway.  Wow. Guess I got there at a good time.

Back at home, I got ready and went out for a run.  Unbelievable 45 degrees. Daffodils coming up. The tree in the backyard I call a "tulip tree" has large fuzzy buds, almost ready to pop open. While I enjoy this unusually mild winter, I'm concerned for the tree crops--cherries, peaches, apples, etc.

After breakfast I found myself dozing on the sofa.  *sigh*

Got up and showered, Frank came over, and we went out for supper. We had a nice evening.

Tomorrow I need to pick up a few groceries.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Friday 01.08.2016

A much better work day.

Even though I had a lot of patients to care for, the pace of the work flow was manageable, not overwhelming.  We even had lunch!

A quiet evening.

Tomorrow I may get labs done for the "annual" physical. Or not. I'll see how I feel in the morning. I'd like to run, too.

A quiet night.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 01.07.2016

Another great day!

The sun poked through the clouds after a while this morning.  I went out for a run and enjoyed the warmth, even though the temp showed 38 degrees.

Breakfast, shower, did some reading.

Went to the Recognition Ceremony at the hospital, which was nice.  It was the first time anything like this has been done. Anyone who had accomplished a certification, degree, or advanced on the "clinical ladder" was given a certificate and a gift of a leather-wrapped pen/pencil holder with a clock on it and an engraved name plate.  There were about 50 employees that were recognized tonight. It was a nice event, decorated, linens on the tables, and enough food.

A quiet night.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 01.06.2016

Another great day!

Although I would rather have slept another couple of hours this morning, I got up and ready for the day. Packed a lunch and was off to a meeting.

Very lively, lots of discussion and ideas, and we shook out a loose format for our Education Fair for our staff. I'm sure it will come together and be awesome.

After lunch, another girl, who is testing for the International Board Certification for Lactation Consultant in April, has asked me to join her in studying for the exam. I'm happy to--she's an excellent labor and delivery nurse who holds other certifications and does a lot of education for our staff. And it will help me prepare for taking the exam in October. We spent a couple of hours reviewing the program she's using, which I like a lot.

We then went to the auditorium to help a couple of others set up for a going away party for another co-worker. After 35 years in Labor and Delivery, she's taken a position in the computer charting arena. She said it was very difficult walking out of the change (locker) room that last time. Yes, I would think it would be.

It was a lovely party.  After getting everything taken apart and the room put back together, we left.

I stopped at the store for a couple of items, fueled the car, and had a quiet rest of the night.

Tomorrow is a Recognition Dinner for the staff who have achieved accomplishments this past year.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 01.02.2016

Another great day!

Started out cloudy and gloomy, and cleared in the afternoon. The sun was warm and melted the bit of ice on my driveway.

I was surprised when I looked out in the back yard and saw a few squirrels. And a few more. Total of 6 big fluffy squirrels, chasing each other, rolling and tumbling, climbing and jumping in the trees, rolling and falling to the ground. I've not seen them playing? like that before. It was kind of neat to see. Then they all went off to another area. Wouldn't have known they had been there if I hadn't seen them....

I went out for errands; took the recyclables in, got the oil changed in the car, and stopped at the store.

Got a couple chapters done.  It's a lot of reading, and I'm finally in the back half of the text. One paragraph at a time.

Tomorrow maybe I can run. Heard it was going to be cold.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Friday 01.01.2016 First Day!!

A great day to start another year...

To my surprise, I fell asleep just before midnight and woke about 0130. I didn't hear any of the kabooms and bangs that I have heard previous years.

It was cold today--mid 20's with a little wind and light snow. I bundled up and went out for a run anyway.  It turned out to be quite pleasant, even with the bit of wind and snow.

Breakfast and shower, and I read a little and woke up later. Hmm.

Phone calls and a quiet evening.

Tomorrow I need a couple things from the store.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.
