Friday 07.31.2015

Another beautiful day!

Sunshine, blue skies with clouds breezing by.

Went to the Big Latch On, where we had a great turn out, with approximately 28 babies, their mommas and their siblings, and several members of the Breastfeeding Coalition of Jackson County, MI.

From there I went home, traded the convertible for the van, and went to Discount Tire.  Even with an appointment, I waited almost a half hour for my turn at the counter. When the service order was written up and sent back for the guys, we talked about the "what-ifs"--what if it needs new tires. He showed me the different tires available, we talked about features and prices, and made a selection, IF it was needed.

He came out a short time later, saying the tires on the van were 6 years old and were deteriorating.  *sigh*  OK, put the new ones on.....

I was out of there before long.

Stopped at the store for a couple items I forgot to get yesterday.

Went through the car wash, went home and polished it up. Got the windows rain-x'd, interior dusted, and ready to go.

Fixed supper, took a quick run to the boat cover lady so she could show me what she was doing, got back and ate.

Cleaned up the kitchen, finished the laundry that was in, and had a quiet night.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 07.30.2045

What a great day!

Had a nice morning. Went to the hospital for a retirement party. I ended up staying and doing a couple of other things after. And, I went back and cleaned up, because it was crazy busy there. (always seems to happen when there's a potluck....)

I was gone longer than anticipated--when I got home, I made some business calls, did what I needed to do on the internet (which seems to take longer than one might think it should), and finally was able to enjoy being outdoors.

Watered the plants, refilled the bird bath, and was able to sit outside and read. It was a bit breezy, so the mosquitoes weren't bothersome, at least until the air quieted and I got chased indoors.

I fixed a yummy supper and ate, did kitchen chores, and had a quiet evening.

Tomorrow is the Big Latch On, a world-wide (really) event to promote breastfeeding. Over at the Meijer Branch of the Jackson District Library, on Airport Road, 10:30am.

Tires on the van checked for the road trip at Discount tomorrow afternoon, and I hope to do a little polishing of the vehicles, too.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 07.29.2015

Hot. Humid. Sunshine.

That was my run this morning.

Not totally unpleasant, but I was happy to be back at the house in the "cool".

Whew.

Frank came over for a visit before going to work.

I went out for errands later in the afternoon.

Fixed food for retirement party tomorrow, had supper, cleaned up the kitchen. By the time I got outdoors the weather had changed some--felt like the humidity was lower, was definitely cooler, and there was a gusty breeze.

But when the air stopped moving, the mosquitoes came around, so that was the end of my outdoor time.

A quiet night.

Tomorrow I have internet stuff to do.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tuesday 07.28.2015

What a great day today!

Started out to be overwhelmingly busy, for all of us. Fortunately, I had an Orientee who fit into the team nicely. We were able to weave new information and processes into the care we provided to our patients, expanding her skills and knowledge of our Unit. We ended the shift with a review of the day, realizing how the contributions of each of us made the day go as well as it did.

Best. Co-Workers. Ever.

A top-down ride home, a bite to eat, and a quiet night.

A couple of errands tomorrow.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Monday 07.07.2015

Whew!  This day made me tired!

I was on my feet all morning until I finally sat down for lunch at 1:10.  I looked at the clock because I had a lot of things going on that needed to be kept on time.  1:30, I'm back out there, and I didn't sit down again until a little after 7, finally clocking out almost 8pm.

Whew, again.

I had a bite to eat after getting home.

A  quiet evening.

Tomorrow I get to do it again.....

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 07.26.2015

What a great day today!

A little too warm, a little too humid, but it beats 20 below.

A couple of phone calls, Frank was here for a visit and to take me out for birthday dinner.  Thanks, Frank!

I went out for a few groceries, and had a quiet evening.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 07.25.2015

Woo Hoo!!!

My Birthday!!

60 Years!!

Oh My.

Ran this morning, Wedding this afternoon.  Was very nice.

Feeling pretty good for a 60-year-old, 7 year breast cancer survivor.

Thank you God.

Not thinking I'd want 60 more years, or even do-overs.  The hard stuff is just too hard to get through.

Maybe 25 good years???

Here's to Day 1.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Friday 07.24.2015

Another great day!

Worked today, nicely busy. When we had discharged our patients, it was time to re-evaluate staffing needs.  It was my turn to float, along with a couple of others who were already out.

So I went and spent the afternoon making sure the patient was safe.

It's always a blessing for me to meet these people who have such needs. Sure makes me thankful.

Tomorrow is a wedding in the afternoon.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 07.23.2015

A beautiful day today!

Sunshine and blue skies and temps high 70's/low 80's.

Went to the BLS class with another instructor, who observed me with the students. She "checked me off" -- I am officially a BLS Instructor!! (Anyone can be an instructor-just have to take the course.)

Stopped at home, changed clothes, picked up the speedboat and took it over to the "boat cover lady", who is going to modify the cover she made last year.

Back at home, I fixed supper, ate, cleaned up the kitchen, and had a quiet evening.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 07.22.2015

Another awesome day!

Slept a bit this morning, got up and didn't get going. Seemed to be in the fog.

Finally went out for a run. Took a while to cool off, then I ate.

Surprised that it was almost 3 by the time I showered.

Sat outside and read a little, then realized I had errands to do before 7pm. I easily did what needed to be done.

Back at home, I had a quiet night.

Tomorrow finish the qualifications for a BLS instructor.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Clocked out in a timely manner, and had a quiet evening.

Tomorrow catching up on errands.

Monday 07.20.2015

Worked today, and had a very nice day, thank you God.  We sure appreciate it.  Some days are just. not. good.

Clocked out, got home, took the van to the car wash. Getting ready for v.a.ca.t.i.o.n.....

Tomorrow is another work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 07.19.2015

Another great day!

I enjoyed sitting outdoors in the shade while I completed the review of class material for the BLS Instructor.  Yes, it was hot. But every once in a while I would go in, "water in, water out", and go back outdoors.

When I got tired of sitting/reading, I got the pruners and cut some of the larger branches that were hanging out of the "hedge" between the driveways. There are lots more that will probably be removed, but it was enough today to get the larger ones down.

I went inside to cool off, fixed a bite to eat, and went back out until I finished reading.

Shower, (again), and I stayed inside for a quiet evening.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 07.18.2015

Interesting day today.

Went out and ran this morning.  Did pretty good for having been sick and all--walked maybe 3 blocks total. The sun was out and temperature was climbing. Mid 70's with humidity.  Reminded me of running in South Carolina. Lots of water for me today.

Frank stopped in for a minute before going out to a car show with his Mustang. He really enjoys being with the group (J.A.C.E.  Jackson Area Car Enthusiasts) and showing his vehicle.

I went to Mason for a get-together. It was pretty nice, and I enjoyed the people there. When the tornado watch was announced, though, I watched the radar, and decided it was time for me to get on home, so I wouldn't be driving in the storm.

It started raining a little while after I got home. And there were a couple of really bright flashes of lightning and loud thunders that vibrated through the house. Ugh.

Tomorrow I hope to prepare for the BLS class I'll be co-teaching next week.  And then I'll be an independent instructor.  Woo Hoo!

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Friday 07.17.2015

Great day today!

Dental cleaning--"everything looks good!"   That's what I like to hear....

Stopped for a few groceries. The store was packed like Christmas because of a 3-day music event at the race track in Brooklyn. Yikes!!

Sat outdoors in the shade with a little breeze and read. Making progress.

Came in and had a bite to eat, then made cookies for a get-together tomorrow.

A quiet rest of the night.

Still have thick, slightly colored stuff coming out.

Stay cool.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 07.16.2015

Worked today.

Had a pretty good day, thank you God.

Feeling somewhat better, though not much voice, was coughing, and felt "stuffy" most of the day.  And a little tired about mid-day.  I was able to take a little break, which did help.

A quiet night.

Tomorrow is appointments.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 07.15.2015

A great day today!

Got the phone call this morning--my turn to stay home!!

Yay!

I put my 'jammies back on and snoozed the morning.

It's just what I needed, this last day of "rest".

With cooler temperatures, and a little breeze, I decided to get one of the bushes in the yard trimmed back.

I took my time,  got it done and cleaned up.

Fixed supper, ate, sat outdoors for a while, and had a quiet evening.

Feeling better, overall. Still an occasional cough, still occasional lightly colored "stuff" coming out. But better.

Scheduled to work tomorrow.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tuesday 07.14.2015

Another great day today!

Intermittent rain throughout the day.

I did go out for a walk when the sun was out and the roads mostly dried up. The dark clouds gathered again, and it rained hard, all at once, just after I got inside.  Kind of neat, how that worked.

I'm feeling better, still with occasional yuck to get rid of, from both the sinuses and the chest. My energy level is slowly improving, too.

Overall, a quiet day.

Work tomorrow.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Monday 07.13.2015

Had a pretty good day today.

Enjoyed a very warm shower this morning, finally getting the hunk of dark goo out of my right sinus. I've had a couple of coughing spells, and maybe don't feel as tired today.  I sure hope I continue to get better.

Frank came over before going to work.

He left, and I went to get the new license plates.

I didn't need new ones, as they are not 10 years old.  The guy helping me at the Secretary of State office read through the insert that comes with the renewal information. After a couple times through, he says it's a new program, and maybe the notification will change, like flagging the renewal page that the plate itself needs renewed.  Because if a plate is transferred from one vehicle to another, do you really know how old that plate is???  I didn't, and was surprised when he told me. (that information is right there on their computers)

So my renewals were just a little less than expected, and I got out of there in an hour and a half.

Stopped for a few groceries on the way home.

Supper, and a quiet night.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 07.12.2015

This morning, when I saw the work assignment, I waited for the other girl to come in. It was her turn to "float", and it would be with the same patient I was with yesterday.  I offered to go, if she preferred not to.

She took the trade.

I was happy about that. I still feel fatigued, and wasn't up to chasing the halls all day. (but I would have, had she not accepted the offer)

Happy to say that the patient is much better, showing improvement as the day went on.

A quiet night, and hoping to feel rested in the morning.

One of the tasks tomorrow is to get new license plates for the vehicles. The renewal information included a slip saying that plates over 10 years old must be replaced. Ok, more $$$.

Still having coughing spells, occasionally getting stuff out. And the sinuses are draining stuff, too. Still colored.  But draining.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday, July 11, 2015

Saturday 07.11.2015

My turn to float again today.

Not really, but I agreed to go so that didn't have to "chase the halls".  I just don't have the energy to do that yet, even though I'm feeling a bit better.

I ended up with a nice person who needed watching over. And, good thing I was there, as she did have an "occurrence" that I was able to facilitate.

Later in the afternoon I got called back to my own unit, where I did need to be on my feet for the last couple of hours. I think it was a great way to get "back to work" after being so ill these last few days.

Thank you God.

Tomorrow is a work day, too. I hope to wake up feeling even better.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Friday 07.10.2015

I am much better today. Tired, but better.

Still with coughing attacks, but stuff coming out is only lightly tinted now.

Praise the Lord.

I was really sick.

So sick, I didn't even mention the Great News.....

Allegiance Health has been designated a Baby Friendly Hospital !!!!!

Yay!!!

3 years of meetings, lots of learning, lots of change in our practice.

All for the best start possible for the Baby and the Mom.

Now the hard work of maintaining the changes in practice....

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 07.09.2015

So glad I'm feeling better.

The snot has stopped dripping constantly; still dripping though on occasion.

Coughing spells that have my eyes watering, both from the prolonged cough and the sharp pain it causes in my throat.

But sometimes stuff comes up.

It looks like disintegrating cardboard--kind of yellow/green/brown. Extremely disgusting, and extremely thankful that I got antibiotics Tuesday morning.  Can't imagine how sick I would have been had I not jumped on treatment.

And of course my diaphragm is sore from coughing.

I had a little more energy today--Frank had arranged for the van to be worked on (the brakes were acting up), and he picked me up to retrieve the vehicle. While I was out I made a couple of brief stops and took care of those errands.

Back at home I fixed some food, ate, and tried to stay awake.

After a while, I got the kitchen cleaned up, and had a quiet evening.

Hoping to feel even better tomorrow.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 07.08.2015

Still sick.

Slept (off and on, as usual) from 8 pm until 9:15 am when I made myself get out of bed.

Horrible stuffed head, almost constant dripping nose. Occasional cough with the most awful colored stuff coming up. (not blood, just ugly green/yellow/brown stuff)  Just. Ick.

Fixed oatmeal which was soft and warm on the throat.

Frank stopped over before going to work.

I was feeling a little better this afternoon, and went outdoors. Moved the van out and washed it (wasn't a fast process, at all). The carport keeps the rain and dew and frost and snow off, but it sure gets grimy dusty dirty.

That was enough activity.

Prepared a serving of the yummy soup I made the other day and ate.

Ready to go to bed for the night.

Sure hope tomorrow is better.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Monday 07.06.2015

Worked today.

Floated out. My. Turn. Again.

So I looked inside and found a good attitude and looked for the blessing.

And it was.

Another older person with declining health, and a spouse at the bedside. Spouse finally left in the afternoon, trusting the loved one to me and the rest of the caregivers.

What a good feeling.

Tomorrow is another work day.

Please pray for those with new diagnoses, scary unknowns, and their families.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 07.05.2015

Another great day!

Matilda and I had a busy morning.  We made cookies, went to two stores, came home and finished the cookies, started food prep to be ready by early afternoon, fed her a couple of times.

Frank arrived about 1:00, and Jeremy about 2. Jeremy finished collecting Matilda's belongings while I got the food on the table.

It was fun having them here together. I surely recognize it as a blessing.

Jeremy and Matilda left about 3, Frank about 4, and I spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning up and putting the house back together.

Whew, I'm tired tonight.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 07.04.2015

What a great day today!

Yesterday, Friday, I worked. It was busy, and we had a great team that kept sailing smooth in spite of threatening storms.  Jeremy and Matilda got into Jackson about 3pm were able to get unpacked and settled in before I got home. Matilda was giggly and excited when I finally got home, nearly 8pm. We shrieked and laughed together before settling her into bed. And Jeremy and I were up a couple of hours after that.

She had a rough night, not sleeping well, and Jeremy is a great parent to her. She was happier again this morning.

After a yummy breakfast, we gathered chairs and stroller and sunscreen and snacks and went to Grass Lake for their parade.  Matilda wasn't keen on the "booms" and the loud horns of the semis and the sirens on the fire trucks.  She did enjoy the horses, both the large and the miniatures.

Jeremy left just before nap time for his event; he'll be back tomorrow. Matilda was fatigued and went right to sleep, for three hours. When she woke, I asked her to help me make our supper, which she did, and we ate then cleaned up the kitchen.

Out for a long walk, she chattered the whole time, mostly about the "booms" and the horses in the parade.  I sure enjoy listening to her.

We had a nice evening. As the neighborhood was becoming noisy with the assorted variety of fireworks, I laid down with her at bedtime. She reached over and touched me, then snuggled a little closer, and finally went to sleep.  Sure do love that little girl.

Tomorrow we've got cooking to do. And dad will be back, and they'll be going on home.

Yep. Love 'em while you got 'em.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 07.02.2015

Another great day!

Though I had a classic case of wide-awake-in-bed-until-3AM (what's with that?), I rested pretty good this morning.

Got up about 10 and went for a run.

Breakfast, shower, and to the store to pick up a couple things I missed yesterday.  A top down ride was very enjoyable.

Fixed a yummy salsa-like salad for my supper.

Did some things outdoors, got the house ready for Jeremy and Matilda and Lola. They are coming sometime tomorrow. Saturday, Jeremy is going to visit "the guys", and I'm thinking Matilda and I are going to go to the parade out to Grass Lake, then watch the cardboard boat races (all hinge-ing, of course, on almost-3-year-old behavior).

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 07.01.2015

A pretty good day today.

Woke at 7:30--looked at the weather report, listened to the radio, and it was 0900!!  Guess I wasn't done sleeping...

Finished putting the Banana Pudding together, got myself put together, had a small bit before going to the hospital for the retirement potluck. Which was nice! Lots of people, lots of food.

And the census was such that I wasn't needed for the afternoon hours I had to sign up for.

So I went home, caught up on a little housework, put supper together,

Went outdoors and read.

A quiet rest of the night.

Tomorrow I hope to run finish house chores.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.
