Thursday 04.30.2015

Another great day!

A safe trip to north Lansing and back, thank you God.

The financial planner says I'm on track.  Not with "unlimited funds",  but enough to take care of myself. Of course, it's all variable.....

Laundry this afternoon, and then I could hardly keep my eyes open.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 04.29.2015

What a beautiful day!!

Blue sky, sunshine, mid-60's.

Leaves have opened, flowers blooming, the blooming bush in the back yard is about to burst forth the pinkish-red blossoms that the hummingbirds like.

So I cooked up a batch of hummingbird food and put the feeder out.

"Observed"  at the BLS class this afternoon.  The instructor had me assist some, but not lead. So, I have to sign up for another class, where the instructor will observe me.  *sigh*  It's all a process.....

Stopped for fuel and groceries on the way home.  Fixed fabulous food, and have leftovers packaged for another time. Yum.

Tomorrow is an appointment with the financial planner. I'm hoping for a positive report.

Tuesday 04.28.2015

We did it!!

The Baby Friendly surveyors were with us until about 11:30 to finish collecting their data.  And they were smiling.  We expect to hear the results in 6-8 weeks.

We had lots of babies last night and today. I had a challenge keeping up with my work. As a team we worked together and got things done.

Tomorrow I observe/be observed teaching a Basic Life Support class, to pass the BLS Instructor course.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Monday 04.27.2015

An anxious start to the work day, as the Greatest Team Ever awaited the Baby Friendly Surveyors.

But, a couple of hours into the day, it was apparent that the surveyors liked what the heard and saw.  They were relaxing some, with genuine smiles, not "professional" smiles.

The survey continues tomorrow as they continue to gather the required amount of data to take back to the reviewers.

And I work tomorrow, too.

Sunday 04.26.2015

Had a great day today!!

Stripped my bed, laundered, out on the clothesline to blow and dry and smell wonderful!!

Fixed a salad, put the bed back together, vacuumed throughout.

Frank wants to know:  want to go walk the trails in Chelsea?

Sure....I took my salad and ate on the way.

So we (he, a friend, her daughter, and I) go out to the Gerald E. Eddy Discovery Center and walk a few miles through the woods.

So Beautiful.

The birds were noisy, the temperature just cool enough, the sun warm enough, and the wind enough to keep the bugs away.

We had a good time.

Back at home, I had a quiet rest of the night.

Tomorrow is a work day--and the Baby Friendly Surveyors will be there!

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 04.25.2015

Boy have I felt just plain tired today.

Picked away at chores, didn't need to do the errands.

Cleaned the kitchen, saw Frank for a quick minute, and took my runners (running shoes) out for a walk.

Loved being out.  The birds are noisy and finding lots of worms and bugs coming up out of the ground.

Tomorrow is predicted to be a little warmer.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Friday 04.24.2015

Had a pretty fun afternoon/evening.

Surprised that it was after 9:30 this morning the last time I woke up.

I got up and drank some water, and had a quiet morning.

Wasn't needed for the "mandatory" extra hours, and that freed me to go to the Milan Dragway with Frank and several others.

It was exciting to see Frank on the track. It's a straight track, and each run was timed and recorded, first on the 1/4 mile distance, then the 1/8 mile distance.  He wasn't the fastest, and certainly not the slowest.

Our group of 13 went out for a bite to eat afterwards. They are a nice group of people.

Tomorrow I need to run up to the hospital for a few minutes, as well as a couple other errands.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 04.23.2015

Whew, I'm tired tonight.

Busy work day, greatest co-workers ever.

Tomorrow I don't have to get up early; and I hope I don't have to go in for the last 4 hours of the shift (one of the "mandatory hours"  shifts I've picked up).

My ankle and shin have felt slightly swollen both last night and tonight. Been trying to ignore it. Maybe it will be better tomorrow....?

Wednesday 04.22.2015

Worked today.

Although it was busy, the day worked itself out to be a pretty good day. At least for me.

Tired tonight.

Doing it again tomorrow.

Tuesday 04.21.2015

Windy today with occasional rain. Pavement would almost dry and it would rain again.  Ahhh, Spring!

Frank came over for a visit before going to work.

I went out for a few groceries.

Supper, clean up.

A quiet evening.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Monday 04.20.2015

Sure was wormy today!!

Raining in Grand Rapids--so many worms in the parking lot that one needed to watch where one stepped.  Eww--slipping on a smushed worm....

The conference was superb, speakers excellent, and a safe drive both there and back, thank you God.

Tomorrow I need a few groceries.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 04.19.2015

Worked today.

A much better day for me, for us all.

The last 3 hours, however, is what skilled nurses are all about.

Tomorrow is a conference in Grand Rapids.

Car pool meeting at 0545.....

Saturday 04.18.2015

Another great day at the J.O.B.

Busy.

I mixed an "instant breakfast" about 12:30 and drank about half of it, about an hour later got to the other half. Finally had my "lunch" food about 3:30.

But I got my work done.

And my patients were happy, and co-workers too.

Got a load of laundry done this evening.

Tomorrow is another work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs

Friday 04.17.2015

Ohmygosh, what a beautiful day today!!

Temps reached mid 70's--with a light breeze and clouds moving through. The sun was gloriously warm.  Almost too warm.  But after the cold winter....

Frank came over before going to work. He used the ladder and cleared the foliage that had grown onto, and weighed down, the wires from the pole to the house. We think they are probably cable and or television wires, as the electricity comes in on the other side of the house. I picked up the brush and added it to the growing pile in the back yard, that I've asked the landlord to come pick up. It's way too much too burn.

He left, and I went to get a few groceries.

Fixed supper, ate, showered, and had a quiet night.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 04.15.2015

Sunshine, blue skies.  Spring time.

Beautiful.

Started out this morning with that "funny" feeling, wondering why I was feeling congested. I realized that I had been "sniffing".  Uh Oh.  And pain in the back of my neck.

Migraine.

I enjoyed a nice shower, and before long, it was time to go for the massage.

I was contemplating taking medicine, but chose to wait until after the massage, hoping Leah would be able to fix me.

She did.

Worked on the neck and upper back/shoulders. I knew right away when the spasm was released.  I still find the whole massage effect amazing.

She also worked on my foot and ankle again. Still a little sore and swollen, but getting better bit by bit.

Fixed supper and had a quiet evening.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tuesday 04.14.2015

What a great day today!!

Uneventful drive to Dearborn and back.

An information-filled Workshop with vendors, and meals provided.  It was very nice.

Went out for a walk this evening after I got home.  Birds were squawking noisily and flitting around. Our grass has greened and buds are swelling to burst. I saw daffodils and hyacinths in bloom, and daylilies growing pretty good.

Had a couple of phone calls tonight, and ready to turn in.

Tomorrow is a massage.

*sigh*

Monday 04.13.2015

Worked today, with a great group of co-workers.

I will say, though, that we were each ready to clock out.  Whew!

Tomorrow our Education Council is presenting to the Michigan Hospital Association conference about our creation and implementation of our Post Partum Hemorrhage cart.  Pretty cool invitation...we are excited to be going.

Sunday 04.12.2015

What a gorgeous day!!!

Blue sky, sunshine, BIRDSONG!!!!

Went out for errands. One of the stops was at the phone store.  I have read the specs, comparing phones, know what I want to use it for, and had decided which one I was going to land on.

When it was my turn, the nice lady showed me a different phone.  Umm, why would I want this one??  An hour later she had the figures written on a paper.  I wasn't convinced about either phone at that point.

So I left, fueled the vehicle, filled a (small) grocery cart, and went home.

Had something to eat, and spent a couple hours outdoors cleaning out winter.

Shop vac'd the interior of the car, wiped of the mud marks from the inside, moved a couple of plant pots out of the garage, and swept it out. The birds were so noisy.  A bluebird was splashing around in the birdbath. A robin pulled a couple of worms out of the ground.

And I slapped at a couple of mosquitoes.

Frank stopped over for a few, and I had a quiet rest of the night.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 04.11.2015

What a beautiful sunshiny day today!!!

Frank came over this afternoon, and we met some friends of his over at the Jackson Speedway, a go-cart track.

The Speedway was having an "open house" with free go-cart rides, stock car rides, and the Mongoose Monster Truck. The truck sat up to 13 people on bench seats (padded, thankfully).  The line was long, but after about 20 minutes it was our turn.

Geesh--we squealed and held on as the driver went over very large dirt mounds, spun in circles (felt like the speed boat), and bounced over the uneven ground. Kind of fun!

Next, we got in line for the stock car ride.  One at a time, finally our turn. Each of the two kids--6 and 9 years old--went, then Frank went.  He thought that was pretty fun, too.

The go-cart line was really long and not moving very quickly, and the family was ready to get food.

So we all went to a restaurant and ate and visited.  Another of Frank's friends joined us, so he and I stayed (quite a while) longer.

It was a great way to spend Frank's birthday afternoon.

Tomorrow I've got a couple errands to do.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Friday 04.10.2015

Worked today.

My turn, again, (already???) to float.

So I went and spent 8 hours with an elderly gentleman who was very talkative in an off-the-wall sort of way.  After his morning nap, we got along pretty good.

In the afternoon he got a little restless; started rocking and humming. And almost howling in his "singing" voice, which wasn't too bad.  I started humming with him, and to my surprise, he harmonized. Looked at me and smiled. I closed the door and asked him if he wanted to sing.  "Well, yes," he said.

We sang I've Been Working on the Railroad, a tune he recognized but couldn't put all the pieces together. Then we sang She'll Be Coming 'Round the Mountain".  He got to rockin' with that one, and knew the verses. He laughed when we "killed the old red rooster", and giggled and licked his lips when we "all had chicken and dumplin's".  He cracked me up.

Must have tuckered him out, because it wasn't too much longer after that that he said he was cold. He had been sitting on the end of his bed; I pulled the covers around him like a shawl.  His eyes got heavy as he warmed up, and he took my suggestion to get up onto the bed and lay down.  He was asleep before I got the covers straightened around.

Back to my home unit to finish the shift.

God gives us gifts. What we do with them is our gift to God.

Another Great Day!

Definitely Spring weather--foggy, heavy, wet mist. Afternoon storms blowing through.  Birds noisy between the storms.

Went for a meeting this afternoon--another lively group with lots of discussions.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Foot/ankle still letting itself be known. I'll see how it does tomorrow...

Wednesday 04.08.2015

Had a pretty good day today.

Did a little internet stuff, kept my foot up a lot.

Went for a short walk, and made a most yummy supper.

Ate what I wanted of it and packaged up the rest.  4 more portions, adding to what's already in the freezer.

Cleaned the kitchen and had a quiet evening.

Tomorrow is a meeting in the afternoon.

Foot is still a little swollen.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tuesday 04.07.2015

Guess I'm more tired in the evening than I realize--forgetting to blog....

Monday was a busy work day. Hardly sat, finishing documentation after the next shift took over. Two of us were there an hour past shift end.

Today was much better. Started out steady busy, had an actual lunch break (woo hoo!!), and in the afternoon we adjusted staffing.

It was my turn to "float", so I went and stayed with a patient for the rest of the afternoon. When I was relieved and went back to my own unit at the end of the shift, we had also sent a couple of nurses home. Such a change in census.

Looking forward to not having to get up tomorrow morning and being able to rest my foot. It's been swollen today--I had to loosen the laces in that shoe this morning when I put it on. Surprised me....

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 04.05.2015 Easter Day

Had a great day today in Montrose!

Lois was having a good day--Diane thinks it may have been the best day since she's been there this time.  Finally!

Good company and good food.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Saturday 04.04.2015

What a day!

An uneventful drive to Flint (and back) for a funeral.

A wonderful man, who I remember as a happy, quick-witted, magical flutist.

While it was good to see everyone, the undercurrent of mortality filtered my view, and the introspections lended to a feeling of appreciation for life itself.

Tomorrow I'll celebrate the promise of everlasting life with Aunt Lois, Aunt Donna, and a few others.

Rest in Peace, Fred.

Hugs.

Wednesday 04.01.2015

What a great day today!!!

Sunshine and mid 60's!!

Inside chores the first part of the day.  Wasn't needed at the J.O.B. (yippee!) so I went outdoors in the lovely weather.

Caught up on some reading while out in the sun, went out for errands, came back and raked in the back yard. Picked up sticks and branches. Found a couple of hyacinths well up with their blue buds braving into Spring.

Back inside, had a bite to eat, and a quiet evening.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.
