Friday 02.28.2014

The back room has been demo'd--drywall off, (no insulation had been in the walls) new insulation installed. Junction boxes to contain splices. The back wall is still open to facilitate drying. And the inside door opens and closes with much less resistance. The flooring (luan or lauan--I just looked it up) is also drying out. It was really wet out into the middle of the room. Good thing they took the vinyl up.

I went out for a few groceries, shoveled the little bit of snow off the driveway. And even though the temperature was only in the teens, the sun melted the leftover stuff.

Tomorrow is laundry.

Thursday 02.27.2014

Busy busy afternoon. We called over to the other unit for reinforcements.  2 came over and helped the two of us. And came back over, and another couple came over to resolve another problem. I tell you, I have the best co-workers ever!!!

Since I wasn't able to have supper, I heated it (again) before I clocked out.  Whew! I hope everything got done...!!!

Didn't sleep much last night, or the night before, either. Hoping to catch up tonight.

Stay warm.

Wednesday 02.26.2014

Worked today. Great team work, good patients.

At home, I went out to the back room. The drywall is removed from the back wall so the studs are showing. They also removed part of the ceiling. Not as much as I would have, but as long as it's going to dry up and not flood again....  Some of the insulation is gone, and what's left looks to be dry. A lot of the wood looks like it has been wet, and some still is. The back door opens much better already. I wonder how wet the insulation was...

The vinyl floor has been removed and is upside down on the basement floor. The sub floor has large water stains on it. And it has "bubbled" in a few places.  It should probably be replaced. We'll see if it happens.

Tomorrow is another work day, with another drill. Not one of ours, but a hospital wide safety drill.

Stay warm.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tuesday 02.25.2014

What a day!

Crystal, the property manager, and 2 of the maintenance crew (and not the guy why had been here before) came over to check out the back room.  They were all 3 impressed; Crystal was surprised that the water is still dripping at the top of the back door, and that the door was so difficult to open. Heck, I was happy to get it open at all!!  I had also moved my car out of the garage so she could see the ice in there.

She told me that the garage roof was scheduled to be done in the spring. And the crew is going to start tomorrow in the back room.

Frank stopped over to help me move the corner curio and the bookshelf that I use as a pantry down to the basement; I moved the coat rack into the living room. Yup, It works, sure looks odd.

Not sure how long this project is going to be. We talked about leaving it open to dry out, and they are taking the vinyl off the floor, too, to check the sub floor, which is now bowing and feeling like a trampoline under foot. I'm happy it's getting repaired.

The project at the hospital turned into something that we can't fix. We did what we could, got a list of resource people, notified the "higher ups", and labeled the items as a "work in progress".  Geesh.

The Drill that we did, though, was awesome.  And the Staff was Spectacular!!  When we started this 2 years ago we had chaos. Tonight we had organized response and the whole thing was over within 10 minutes. Yay!!

Tomorrow is a work day.

Monday 02.24.2014

A pretty good day today.

The morning meeting led to a discovery of outdated paperwork that needs to be taken care of ASAP; so another person and I are going to do that tomorrow afternoon, before a surprise "drill" for the staff tomorrow night. Hopefully, this project will be just a few hours...

A couple errands on the way home, and a quiet night.

Teen temps tonight and not getting warm anytime soon.

Well, maybe for snowbirds....

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 02.23.2014

Beautiful Sunshine---

But oh so cold.

Early morning phone call saying stay home. Went back to sleep and woke at nearly 9 o'clock. Yup, that's my sleep time.

Went to the hospital this afternoon to pick up my food that I had left there yesterday, "knowing" I was going to work today. I don't usually leave it, but yesterday I did.

When I got back I spent about an hour outdoors, chipping at the ice. I got a walkway cleared inside the garage from the side door across to the car, and another area behind the car and out the garage door. Some areas were about a half inch thick. Then I had to move the ice chips outdoors. An area of the driveway that didn't get the slush removed was melting around the edges, and I chopped at that stuff and moved it, too. That ice was 2-3 inches thick. SO glad I moved that slush before it froze. All that chopping really bothers my hands and shoulders. My hands don't want to grip for a few hours after, and my shoulders just ache.  Just letting me know I'm alive!!

Frank stopped over for a quick visit, too.

Tomorrow is a morning meeting.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 02.22.2014

A wonderful morning--

Up and ready for work. Out to the garage (through the front door of the house)--the car doesn't start. It tries to turn over, but nope. Ugh.  I got the charger/starter thing and hooked it up. The car started right away....

It felt like a comedy, slipping around on the icy garage floor. Yeah, it was treacherous in there.

I backed into the parking space in case I needed a jump this evening.

A pretty good workday, then out to the car.

Big breath.....

Vroom!!  Started right up. Hm.

Off to Auto Zone, where I purchased this battery 12/28/2012.  Yep, 14 months ago.
however, doesn't have any warranty, because it is the replacement to the original. I don't expect it to fail.

The back door is still swollen/stuck shut, and I haven't
The nice guy, Ben, put the meter on the battery, and it showed that it was "good", but needed charged. He was surprised when he saw that. We talked about options and I chose to put a new battery in, put the meter on, and see if it showed that the starter was having a problem.

Alternator ok, starter ok.  New battery installed, car about jumped when I turned the key. I hope it was just a quirky battery in the first place. Time will tell.  This diagnostic work and battery exchange was all without cost to me, as the battery had a 2 year warranty. The new one,  looked too closely at anything else. I'm sure glad I moved the slush off of my driveway--my co-workers were saying how awful their driveways and other roads are that did not get the slush removed.

Tomorrow is a work day, and my head keeps falling over.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Friday 02.21.2014

Another great day!!

The sun finally came out this afternoon and I went out for a walk. So glad I spent the time on the driveway yesterday--Those who didn't have a rutted mess of ice to deal with. Mine is about dry, except for the big puddle that I pushed on it's way down the driveway again.

The road trucks had been by, not plowing, but spreading salt, and the next one spreading sand. Where the sun wasn't on the road, it was very slippery ice. Reminded me of what Atlanta must have been like recently. When a wind gust came along, it kind of pushed me. Ha Ha!!  I wonder what would happen if I jumped?  So I did--and--I might have been moved a smidgen of an nth. It was fun to try, though.

To my surprise, when I went in the garage, the floor was glare ice. Not sure where it came in-- when it rained so much the other day?  I left the doors open for a couple hours hoping to melt it a little.

The back door is dripping today at the top, running down the glass on the inside. And the drywall is wet along the top of the door. I tried to open it, but was afraid that I wouldn't get it closed again. Ugh.

Tomorrow is a workday.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 02.20.2014

What a day....

Giant snow chunks falling from the sky, accumulating to approximately 2 inches. Lightening, thunder, snow changed to icy rain, then just rain.

I was surprised when I heard the neighbor plowing. Huh???  I looked in my driveway. Ewww.

Didn't know if I wanted to shovel it or if it was ice or just what it was, and let it freeze bumpy that way.  After some consideration, I decided to go outdoors and check it out.

My driveway was covered in 2-3 inches of slush.  I love playing in slush!!

But do I want to let it freeze like that??

I got the shovel to see what it was about.  Eww.  Oh.  I'm going to move this stuff.

I ended up pushing most of it down the driveway out into the road. It was way to heavy to pick up and heave over the shoulder high snow piles.

And I'm glad I did.

When I got beside the house, there is an area of the driveway that's lower, and the puddle was about 5 inches deep, over half of the width. As I moved the slush on down, the water streamed down to the road.  It was kind of fun creating the streams. It took me about an hour and a half to clear the stuff.  I was thinking it would be nice if someone was inside making the chili that was on tonight's dinner plan.

It rained the whole time I was out, sometimes harder, sometimes not. And I shoved the water out of the depression several times. When the lightening zapped and thunder clapped, it was time to go in. I think we are all "in for it" when this snow melts. The ground is so frozen and there is nowhere for the water to go.

The back room smells wet, the ceiling drywall feels really damp. The back door is still hard to open and close.

I got in and removed my wet outer wear, half-wet socks, changed clothes, and started the chili.

It was yummy.

A quiet night with a lightening and thunder every once in a while.

Very strange weather.

Stay safe.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 02.19.2014

What a glorious day today!!

I enjoyed the late morning/afternoon sun, and temps at mid 40's, I had to go outdoors.

I took the car to the wash, where the guys were attentive to cleaning off the How-many-weeks'-worth  of salty dirty road grime that we haven't been able to clean off because of single digit temperatures???  (the couple days it was warmer I had to work...)

I got the shovel and removed the ice that had accumulated in the driveway from the roof melt fiasco. I'm happy to say that the roof is dry this afternoon. The maintenance guy had shoveled up half of the main house roof  and that half is all melted. The other half, and the whole front, is still snow and ice covered, and melting. The back room is drying out, but still noticeably wet at the top of the wall and above the door. There was fresh water drippage on the door window; I didn't see anything on the door frame, and the window beside the door was dry, too. The door is still swollen and difficult to open and close. I also noticed a drip on the outside from the soffit, and and foundation still has wet areas. That was a lot of water that came through that wall.

And then I had to go for a walk. It was so beautiful.  The birds were noisy and the breeze was a little cool, but I didn't have a hat or scarf on, and there was no frosty breath. It will be Spring, it will be Spring.....  Right after this next Winter Weather Advisory and two weeks of  below freezing temperatures.

Stay warm.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tuesday 02.18.2014

A much better day today.  Still busy, but more manageable. Thank you God.

When I got home, I saw that Frank had used the snow blower. Woo Hoo!!  He did a pretty good job--first time using the machine. Now the rest of the snow can melt off in the next couple of days...

I stopped for a few groceries on the way home and some expensive gasoline for the car. Geesh--it would sure be nice if gas prices would go down significantly.

The back door opened, and closed, much more easily tonight. I'll be able to see the ceiling/drywall better tomorrow in the daylight.

Tomorrow I'd like to catch up at home.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Monday 02.17.2014

Snow--again.

This has been one of the best winters. Almost like the snow we had as kids.

A very busy day at the J.O.B.  And with the greatest team, and co-workers ever, we got through it.

Tomorrow we get to do it again.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 02.16.2014

Sure was a beautiful day today!!  Sunshine, blue skies, 20+ degrees.

I shoveled the couple inches of large flaked, fluffy snow. I wanted to see what the water was doing on the driveway.  There are still drips coming out of the top corner of the soffit, and still water coming out at the sill running down the foundation. Not much, but enough to have a puddle trickling into the driveway. Maybe half of the drywall is drying, and the very wet areas are still wet. The top of the door jamb has stopped dripping--thank you God--and I can open and close it a lot easier, but can't pull it closed yet. Still have to push and push hard, and bump it a couple times to get it into the door frame. I still need to leave the house by the front door...

Frank, his friend Joe, and son Tavin, and I went up to Fred's and picked up the snow blower. Yay!!  Frank helped Fred get past a "stuck" spot on his computers, so he's back on line again.

From there we stopped at the Medilodge and visited Aunt Lois for a few minutes. She's doing pretty good and hoping to be going back home sometime this week.

After dinner at Bob Evans, the guys got the snow blower out of the van and into the garage.  Yay!!

Now we won't have very much more snow.  (although there is a winter weather advisory until Tuesday morning...)

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 02.15.2014

Wow--when I opened my eyes and looked at the clock, it was 0924!  I had a good sleep this morning!

Frank came over about 1 and we started on his food prep. After we got the potatoes cooked and shredded, he wanted to go over to Danielle's mom's house (where we were having a surprise dinner for Danielle's birthday) and finish up. Since it was his project, we went.

We had a lot of fun, coaching him on how to put these foods together. (a crockpot potato recipe and a salmon loaf recipe, both were D's favorites of her mom's)  He did a good job, and when Danielle showed up, she was surprised to see us there, and more surprised that Frank had prepared most of it.

We laughed and had an enjoyable evening.

Back at home, the back door has finally stopped dripping. The ceiling spot is seriously soaked and spreading, though not dripping yet. A lot of the other wetness along the seams is drying. The inside door is still difficult to open and close, but getting better; I couldn't close it by pulling on it, only by pushing from the inside. And the stream of water from along the foundation has slowed to occasional icicles. It will be interesting to see what it does as the rest of the snow melts from the roof this coming week.

Tomorrow we get to pick up the snow blower.

So--there will be no more snowfalls greater than 2 inches for the remainder of the season.

Stay warm...

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Friday 02.14.2014

Another busy day at the J.O.B. with great co-workers.

At home, the back door is still dripping, and the wet area on the ceiling continues to deteriorate. I didn't turn the light on--there is no "hot" smell tonight, and I don't want to find the source tonight.  The driveway looked kind of slushy where the water is running. It may have slowed down, but it's hard to see well in the dark.

Tomorrow Frank asked me to help him prepare birthday dinner for his Danielle. Should be fun!!

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 02.13.2014

Another beautiful sunny day!

The maintenance guy was here again today and got the last of the ice off from the roof over the back room. He had a caulking gun up there--I don't know if he used it or not. Wonder if it was 1.) dry enough and 2.) warm enough   for that stuff.  Or if the product was made for below freezing temperatures....   Time will tell. There is still a little water dripping in the top of the door frame, and I didn't see any water in the window frame today.  The spongy area on the ceiling drywall is growing, though.

I didn't have to go in to work the 4 hours that I picked up extra, and was able to do errands instead. Nice!  I also was able to remove the icy crud from the inside of the wheel wells of the car. I wasn't brave enough to go through the car wash--didn't want to take the chance of the doors being frozen when I go out at 0600 for the J.O.B.

I fixed a yummy supper, cleaned up the kitchen, and had a quiet night.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 02.12.2014

Before I went to bed last night, I got the fire extinguisher handy, "just in case".  And I wondered if I could use it while calling the fire department simultaneously....

I slept fairly well, considering. And when I woke about 2, I went out and smelled. It was less, thank God.  I finally had a morning that I didn't need to get up--it was just before nine when I woke to a room full of sunshine. Beautiful!!

Checking the back room, the odor was mostly gone.  The sun was warm enough to get the icicles dripping, and I kept watch of the ceiling. Some of the wet areas are drying, some are still shiny wet.  There are no water runs down the wall, and the towels are dry. The one by the door is just a little wet. There is ice on the inside bottom of the inside door. But with the sun it should be melting pretty soon.

I went outside about 2--the back door opened just a little easier, with only a few drops of water at the top of the door frame. I got the ice chopper thing (like a hoe, but just a straight blade) and thought I'd try getting the tire tracks off the driveway. They are about 4 inches high of packed snow, and the car actually slipped off of it as I was pulling into the garage. Don't want to hit the garage....

Much to my pleasant surprise, it came off fairly easily. And when I was getting a good start on it, the maintenance guy pulled in.

He said he had been there both Monday and Tuesday, shoveling the roof. He also put calcium chloride on it to help melt the ice, and today got all but an area of ice about 3' x 5' removed that is above the door. He seemed quite concerned about the odor, and also that there are areas of the drywall that are mushy. He looked in the crawl space to check for water, and said it was a little damp looking in the corner, but not puddled/wet.

All the water has been running through the wall, down the outside of the foundation, now traveling down the driveway. I asked him to put some salt on the ice that was on the driveway, and he did. Tonight it's an impressive ice sheet forming, making it's way like lava, slowly oozing about 20 feet down the driveway.

While I was out there I heard birds, and looked up.  ROBINS!!  Several of them, like a little flock. And they flew around in the trees like they knew where they were.  The other birds were chirping and they were all circling and flying around like they were....greeting???  Familiar???  Are these "my" robins??   Guess I'll try putting out some apple slices or something for them.

I fixed supper and ate, checked the back room again (no smell), and had a quiet evening.

Tomorrow I picked up 3-7pm (maybe I won't have to go in) and have a couple errands to do before going in.  And the maintenance guy wanted to be here when I was here, so I would know what was going on. Hm. Guess I might not be such a stupid girl after all.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tuesday 02.11.2014

Sure is cold.

Had another busy day, with a great crew. So blessed.

Back at home, the shoveled area on the roof is melted to the shingles. And the water has run down inside the walls and down the outside of the foundation, and into the driveway. It's gotta go somewhere....

I was able to push really hard and open the back door. And when I got into the back room, the towels were dry!  The drywall on the ceiling is not looking so good, though. There is still the undertone of something that smells "hot".  I felt the walls near the receptacles and light switches, and it's all really cold. I hope it goes away like it did last night. I can say I'm uncomfortable about the odor.

Not a lot planned for tomorrow. I'm pretty tired and realized that I've just nodded off for an hour.

Whew.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Monday 02.10.2014

Ohmygosh. What a busy day.  And it started out with a full unit, and me the only one in my job role.  The
"on call" person was called in, and she did a lot. Then the girl who was covering me for a meeting came in and said she could stay most of the day.  Thanks, Christine and Joyce!!  You saved me today!  Of course, all of my other co-workers are great, too.  We have an awesome team!

And tomorrow we get to do it again!!

Back at home, I see that the back roof has been shoveled off. And NOT onto the driveway. He also removed some from the main part of the roof.  I'm hoping it makes a difference--there's certainly less to melt.

Inside--ohmygosh.  I don't know what he did up there, but it smelled hot, like a soldering iron or something. I was worried that there is a wire or something, but as the evening went on, the odor lessened. The towels were all saturated, with puddles beyond them. So I scooped them up and added them to the previous ones in the washer, mopping up the floor, knocking the ice off of the inside of the bottom of the door, up the sides, and the bottom hinge that was covered in ice. So strange, how that water goes. The towel that was next to the door was saturated, and frozen on the side closest to the door. That's a lot of cold air...

Another seven towels down for tomorrow.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 02.09.2014

Today as the temperature got to the mid 20's and the sun was out, the water was dripping. I cleared out the back room, all except the coat rack, the bookshelf I use as a pantry, and the corner curio, which I emptied and moved to the corner by the staircase. It may have to go down in the basement, but I'm pretty sure it's safe where it is for now.

While I was out there, I heard the ominous ticking.  I mean dripping.  Overhead, onto the drywalled ceiling. All that water is running over to where the ceiling and wall meet, going where ever it can. Into the drywall joints, inside the wall, dripping out of the top of the door jamb and window casing, collecting behind the paint. There was a huge paint bubble at the bottom of the door frame that burst, saturating the towel that was there. Two towels completely saturated today, and another one really wet.

Frank came over this afternoon and shoveled the driveway again, and also dug a path to the front door. I had been stepping in my footprints, and was going to shovel that today, but he did it for me.  He was also able to push while I pulled, and we got the back door open. I chopped the half inch of ice from the sill/threshold there between the doors, and the ice on the inside of the frame. Gosh, this is a real mess.

I texted the property manager again, telling her the ice dam was causing great damage to the back room, with water soaking the ceiling, wall, bubbling the paint, and advised her to come inspect TODAY! She responded a couple hours later, and a maintenance person came over an hour or so after that.

He kind of poo-poo'd the situation. By the time he got there, the sun had shifted and the water had slowed down from the top of the door, and the ice was almost melted. We saw where the water is sheeting down the outside foundation wall--looks like frozen Niagara Falls. The area between the porch and the driveway where the shrub is, is where the water is collecting, and the ice is several inches thick. And the water is starting to run out onto the driveway.

He said I have a leak in the roof up there, and he'll get up there tomorrow and shovel it off to see what's going on. We talked for a bit--he looked at me as if I were a stupid girl. I hope it's only as bad as he thinks it is, and not as bad as I think it is.  Regardless, interior repairs will need to be done. And I hope they do it right. None of the cover-up stuff.

Single digit temps tonight. Work day tomorrow. He'd better not shovel that snow into the driveway and leave it there....

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 02.08.2014

A much waited for and needed massage today.  Not only were my muscles tight and sore, she moved a lot of lymph fluid.

So thankful to have a great therapist....

Back at home, I checked the back room.  The water marks are spreading, but don't see anything dripping at the moment.  Looking through the window of the back door, it looks like the ice might be less on the storm door window. Hmm.  I tried the back door.  I had to pull quite hard, but I got it open. Yay! I got the large bowl that I've been using to collect the chunks of ice, and broke off what I could.  I even got the storm door open!!  Double Yay!!

The inside door/frame/jamb is swollen so it's difficult to get closed, but I got it. I feel somewhat better that it's open, at least for the afternoon.

I went out for the eye appointment, then stopped for groceries.  I was able to enter the house from the back door, too.

There was a little water running down in two places from the ceiling to the floor; the towel is strategically placed and not very wet.

Tonight, the water along the seams of the drywall on the ceiling is 2-3 inches wide, extending further, and will probably be dripping if more melting occurs tomorrow. The water bubble in the paint are growing and extending along the top of the wall, too. The inside door has frozen shut again and the storm door window is glazed. I'm kind of surprised, as I didn't see any dripping when I looked earlier.

Tomorrow I'll finish moving things around out there and communicate with the property manager again. She did not respond to my first voice mail, and I'd like to keep her apprised of the situation. I hope they have insurance on the structure. I have a Renter's Policy to protect my things, though I don't anticipate any damage to my stuff.

Time will tell.

Hope all is well in everyone's abodes.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Friday 02.07.2014

Worked today, tired tonight.

Got home, checked the back door. This morning the inside door was frozen shut, too; this evening the top is loose, but the bottom is frozen. There are water marks on the ceiling extending along the seams of the drywall, one of them extending several feet into the room. The paint bubbles full of water are almost comical looking. I changed out two of the soaked (dripping) wet towels on the floor in front of the door. Part of the towel was frozen. I am surprised there's any air coming through all the ice on the other side of the door to even freeze!  Gosh, this is going to be such a mess when the snow and ice finally does melt, not only from the doors, but the whole roofs of the house...

I made a few trips to the basement with some things, looking at where I might put stuff. And I was hungry, not having had supper. I fixed a bite and looked at real estate listings, both sale and rentals. Just looking at options.

Tomorrow is my rescheduled massage, and an eye appointment in the afternoon.

And I'll continue to clear that back room.  And maybe try to clear a path to the front door.  *sigh*

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 02.06.2014

Tired tonight.

Amazing how taking care of just a few people can be so busy.

Also amazing is how water dripping through the top of the door jamb can freeze the door shut with a very interesting sheet of ice.

Yes, it has happened. Is happening. Did happen.

And it's going to be a real mess as the accumulations on the roof melts.  Water is coming in where the wall meets the ceiling. The paint has two and three inch bubbles of water behind it. It's running down the wall onto the floor. Today a bath towel along the bottom of the door was soaked by the time I got back home.

Yes, I told the Property Manager. No, she hasn't come over yet.  The storm door is literally encased in ice as the water has run down it. I had to trudge through knee deep snow to get out of my front door and over to the driveway.

It's a good thing the temperatures are predicted to be single digits and below for a few days. I'd like to clear that room so my things don't get ruined.

Ah, the adventures of Life!!

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 02.05.2014

Yup, a little sore today, like I thought I would be.

I walked around the house a little, did some gentle stretching, drank some water.

The stretching helps.

Breakfast, tylenol, motrin.

Ready to go see Leah.

I get a text--don't come, roads are too bad.

It was still snowing here, and I was disappointed, but relieved, too, that I didn't have to drive in it.

So I stretched a little more, doing some light yoga, thinking I'd better go out and shovel the driveway again.

And Frank pulled up.

He shoveled the driveway for me--another 7-8 inches or so. I'm glad he did it. Not sure if I would have made it, when I saw how much was out there, and watched him workin' it.  Pretty soon it will be so hot we won't be able to breathe. And buggy--mosquitoes.

I did some laundry, putzed around, stretched a little more.  Feeling better.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading.  Hugs.

Tuesday 02.04.2014 Shoveling....

After it warmed up to the high teens, I bundled up and went out to tackle the driveway.

There was a lot more snow out there than I thought.

I decided to start at the bottom today. I had gotten the driveway opened from the road and was maybe 15 to 20 feet up the driveway when the plows went by. First one, then another behind it, getting a little closer. The icy chunks of course were thrown up into where I had just shoveled for an hour. *sigh*

And my snow shovel was not going to move that stuff.  I trudged back up to the garage and got a dirt shovel (spade?) and got to work. Seemed like another hour later and that stuff was moved.

Now I went up to the garage and started down. Maybe I'll just get here close to the garage and call The Guy to come plow.  Ugh, $40.  But worth it.

I didn't have anything pressing to do today, and I stayed at it. I got the top piece done.  I carved a line across the driveway and made another couple of sections. Whew. Time for a break.

I went in and had a bite to eat, some water, and tylenol and motrin. I had already been out there 2 hours doing this...

One shovel at a time. I alternated between the two shovels, as the chunks of the crust of snow didn't stay on the shovel to pick it up high enough to get over the mound. Using the spade took smaller bites, but I could lift it and throw it. Bit by bit.

I finally got done. 4 hours. Might shoulda called The Guy.

But I got it done.

A hot shower and bowl of homemade broccoli soup, another tylenol, and a quiet night.

Tomorrow is a massage.

I hope I can lift my arms to hold on to the steering wheel to get there.....

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Monday 02.03.2014

What a great day today!!

Although I had to leave my family.

To my surprise, when we opened the door to go out to the car, the humidity about knocked me back. Ugh!! It's HOT out there... and humid, too. No kidding, 75 degrees and stifling. And I was dressed to go into single digit temperatures.

Matilda and Jeremy took me to the airport. I talked about going bye-bye, going to the airport, etc. When we got there, she kissed me, then hugged me. And cried when I walked away. Daddy sat in the back seat with her for a few minutes, and we waved bye-bye and blew kisses until I got to the entrance of the terminal. I'm pretty sure she had stopped crying by then, watching me go in.

My first flight was a half hour delay. Other flights to the East Coast had been cancelled, so there was also the commotion of people trying to re-book their lives.

At Charlotte, NC, I had plenty of time until my flight to Detroit. I found a sandwich shop and got a fresh warm sandwich and went to the gate area to find a quieter spot to eat.

The departing gate was almost an alcove, and only a few people were there. A man with three children was trying to keep the kids (1 almost 4 and twins just 6) engaged. He found something Mickey Mouse on the IPad and they were pretty good overall. Mom came up with food, and Dad was on the phone, trying to find other flights. Not that I was "eavesdropping"; one can't help but hear conversations when they are just 2 seats away from you. Seems their flight was cancelled and they were on a Standby status, the challenge being the need for 5 tickets. I said a little prayer for them.

And then they rounded up and left.

When I boarded my plane, which was on time, a nice young man in front of me was moving things in an overhead compartment to put his bag in. And when he did, there was also room for mine. And he asked if he could put it up there for me.  Sure!!  Thanks!!

We waited for about 15 minutes to move away from the terminal, but we got underway and had an uneventful flight to Detroit. Sure, there was a little turbulence that felt like driving on a bumpy road, but not very much.  And when we stopped, my seat mates were courteous and the gentleman pulled my bag out for me.  Thanks!!

Ok--now to the Big Blue Parking Deck.

I had my parking ticket, on which I had written the space number. And I mostly remembered how to get there.  After walking the width of the structure, I found signage that pointed me in the right direction.  Ah ha!!  There it is!!

I pushed the key fob to open the trunk. And since it was so cold, I thought I'd start the car. I pushed the button on the fob--click, click, click......oh, no, the battery......?????    I just put a new battery in last year, didn't I????   Big Breath.......

I put my luggage in the trunk, and held my breath to start the vehicle. Nope.

Hmm.

I put the hood of the car up. Maybe someone would come by, stop, and offer to jump the car.

Not much in the way of traffic in there.

Now, I always buy the "roadside assistance" with my car insurance, and I got the paper out of the glove box. A nice lady named MaryBelle (isn't that a lovely name?) answered and we worked through the process. She was in St. Johns, and not familiar with airport parking. But there was another person there with her, and between the three of us, and putting me on hold several times, we were getting somewhere.

One of the times I was on hold, a nice man walked by, asking if I needed help. Yes, I need a jump. He said he had a brand new pair of jumper cables that he had gotten for Christmas, and that he would bring his car over and get the car started. ("I haven't even used them yet," he said as he walked on to his car.)  When he said that, I wondered if he knew how to use them. But I did, and I wondered if they might be long enough to reach.  I was fortunate when I found a parking place--it was on the end of the row, or maybe the beginning of the row? where one section separates from another. The side of the car that he would pull up to was opposite the battery. Hmm.

MaryBelle came back on the phone, asking more questions. She's telling me that some company will be out in 45 minutes or less, and will call me to verify my location. While she's talking,  a white pick up truck pulls up with the logo of something like Parking Services or something. A very nice young man asks "Did you call for a jump??"   Ha!!!  MaryBelle, one moment please....

No, but I need one. He says there's one ahead of me, and he'll be right back when he's done with that one.

Wow!!

I tell MaryBelle that the Parking Services guy will be coming back to start my vehicle, and thank her for her time.  She says to call her back if I need anything more.

And the first guy shows up in a Taurus or Fusion. I thought he said he had a truck--not that it matters. He pulled up, got out of the car, and I tell him that my battery is on the far side from where he is, and he comments that he doesn't know which side his battery is on.  I tell him the Parking Services guy came around, and will be back to give the car a jump. I thanked him for his kindness and offer to help, and sent him on his way.  (I think he was secretly glad to leave, and disappointed that he didn't get to use his new jumper cables)

Several minutes later the Parking Services guy comes back. He's got long, heavy duty cables, and I know it will be fine.  Such a nice young man--he told me to get into his truck while he got things ready (it was 5 degrees out there) and I filled out his paper. When we were connected, the car fired up like there wasn't a problem.  Yay!! Thank you God!!

He finished up, putting his cables away, putting the cover back on the battery, and closed my hood. Another fellow approached him asking where a certain Section was. The nice young man said he would help him in just a hot minute--I'll finish here and be right with you. I think he ended up taking that guy to his vehicle, and it might have been in the other structure. None-the-less, he was kind, polite, and willing to help however he could.

An uneventful drive back to Jackson.

I stopped for a few groceries and the car started right up.

At home, I plowed through the snow in the driveway, about 6-8 inches deep, not knowing if the car was going to stop. I made it into the garage. I ended up shoveling from the back door to the garage before unloading the car. It's really cold out!!!

I got home about 10pm. I'm unpacked and unwound and looking forward to being in my own bed.

I'm thankful for all the nice people I have come in contact with today. God and His Angels sure look out for me!!

And thank you for reading! Hugs.

Sunday 02.02.2014

My last full day here.

Matilda was having a "punky" day today--whiney, clingy to the parents. After the morning nap Jenny, Matilda, and I went out for groceries. Matilda was not a happy baby. I'm happy I was there to help Jenny; she had her hands full in the busy store with an unpleasantly noisy 16 month old.

At home, we had a snack and played for a bit, with not much sign of the earlier cranky kid. She did, however, readily accept her afternoon nap, and slept longer than usual.

Jenny and I put dinner together during this peaceful interlude.

After supper we went outdoors, pulling 'Tilda in a wagon. She giggled and squealed most of the time we were out.

Another snack, she played a little, I gave her a bath, and that was the end of the nice baby. She was cranky and wanted to go to bed. So she went down for the night.

I'll be traveling tomorrow, not so eager to trade the sunny 60 degrees for the frozen wintery weather in Michigan. *sigh*

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 02.01.2014

Another wonderful day...

Everyone slept in this morning, and I was first one up. Unusual, in that I often wake about 8 or 8:30.  It was just around 0800 when I was up and getting ready for the day.  Matilda woke about 0830, and her parents got her up.

Gloomy and rainy here, temps hovering around 50 degrees. Still, better than single digits.

We all went out in the afternoon to an indoor play area for children. It was very busy, maybe 50 kids with their adults. We adults appreciated the hand sanitizers...

Back at home, Matilda and I had a quiet night, while the parents went out.

Tomorrow is my last full day here. I have certainly enjoyed it.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.
