Monday 03.31.3014 Out Like A Lamb....

Sure looked like a nice day out there today....  as we were inside..... having babies.

The afternoon got crazy busy.  "Sure--bring her out!!...."    The last 2 hours were like, well, just busy.

And I'm tired tonight.

Tomorrow will be it's own kind of busy.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 03.30.2014

Woo Hoo!!   Another great day!!!

To my surprise, the clock showed 10:01 this morning!!  Yowzer--time to get up!!  But I'm glad I slept this morning.

I got up, stretched, and went out for a run.

Doggone, that wind was still cold.  The sun was lovely and warm, but there were times that I saw my breath.
And I do love the bird song.

Breakfast, shower.

Caught up on some internet stuff.

Supper, a quiet night.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 03.29.2014

Another great day!!

Had a nice morning, Skyped with Matilda, Jeremy, and Jenny.  This technology is sooo cool.  So much different than the days of  "long distance"  on a corded phone; everyone gathered around, eager to have a turn to hear the voice of our loved one, to  "hurry up"  because  "minutes were expensive".   Holding the phone to a baby's or small child's ear.

Now we can see each other through the magic of the ...  airwaves??  Radio frequencies.

Poked around the house, went out for a walk.  Colder than I thought, with a cold wind that smelled like spring. And spring bird song, even with the wind.

Tomorrow is predicted to be warmer.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Friday 03.28.2014

Worked today.  Geesh.  We had a heck of a morning.

The team came together and helped pull us through the worst of it.

The larger particles had settled by about 12:30, and none of us had had a food break.  Since I was at a place where I could, I did; the others worked their way to a break as well.

We got through the rest of the day and finally clocked out.

Tired tonight.

Rest tomorrow??

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 03.27.2014

Feeling much better today---thank you God!

Frank came over for a while before going to work, and I went out for errands this afternoon.  The weather was almost balmy--41 degrees and breezy. Our snow is melting...

A quiet rest of the day.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 03.26.2014

Naggy headache all night, and this morning I just didn't feel good.  A little queasy.

And then my nose started dripping.

I realized it was probably a migraine.

So I had some breakfast and took some medicine.

And sure enough, about a half hour later, I started feeling better.

All day I've been kind of  "down",  punky, not much motivation.

Rested, mostly, and dozed a couple of times.

Tonight, the medicine has worn off, and my brain feels  "swollen"  or full  on the inside.  I think I'll recognize if I need more medicine.

Tomorrow is an eye appointment.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tuesday 03.25.2014

Worked today.

Quiet day, low census, and I left about 2:30.

To my surprise, I started feeling really tired and "punky" and dozed most of the afternoon.

Tonight it feels like a sinus headache and really fatigued.

Hope I'm not getting "something".

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Monday 03.24.2014

Another great day today!!

Woke at 6 instead of 0445--that alone makes a better day.

The meeting was very busy; lots going on.

When I got out to the floor, I found the person who was covering me. She suggested I have lunch, as she had lots of things to do before leaving.

Ok...

Was able to eat, though not uninterrupted.

The afternoon went on, and was finally time to clock out.

Whew!!

Tomorrow I get to do it again!!!

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 03.23.2014

What a great day today!!

Dozed another spell this morning, was surprised that it was 0900 when I looked at the clock. Gotta get up, might get to Skype with Matilda this morning!

I was washing up when I received a text--Yup, they're ready to Skype. I finished up, dressed, turned on the computer.

They called me, and I answered, correctly this time, selecting the video icon instead of the handset.

The first image that came through was Matilda intently watching the computer screen.  When she saw my face, she brightened, smiled, and said "A Ma"   (short "a" sound, and ma)  What a grin I got!!!

She chattered, ran around the room, picked up her favorite toys, brought them over, took off again.

She blew me kisses on her own, quite a few times during our "visit".   And she'd be across the room, check to see if I was still there, and wave at me. Of course, I'd wave back. And she'd smile.

How neat is this technology, anyway??

After that lovely start to my morning, the side of my face went numb, like it does when a migraine starts.  Hmmm.  Yup, pain at the base of the skull on the right side, tightness down to the scapula, and the sudden stuffy or congested feeling I get in my sinuses.

Time for medicine.

Tylenol, Motrin, and a little codeine.

About 20  minutes later the numbness was fading, and an hour later the pain was mostly gone. I still had residual soreness, and wasn't 100%, but was good enough to have a good day.

The sun was beautiful. I went out for groceries. The air was cold, mid 20's, but the sun was warm.  Spring is going to happen.

I did some food prep this afternoon for the work week, cleaned up the kitchen, did the laundry, had a snack.
Finished some computer stuff and had a quiet night.

Tomorrow is a meeting in the morning, and work the rest of the day.

My neck/upper back is tight and sore, and I think the migraine spasm is done. A little leftover soreness in the brain, too, on the right side.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 03.22.2014

What a great day today!!

Went out for a gentle run--was so nice to be out there. I've really missed my "outdoor time" with it being so stinking cold, and with the icy snow-covered roads.

There was only a light breeze, and the birds were sounding quite spring-like. This afternoon, I saw the robins hopping around on the bare ground, snapping up bugs, and I saw one pull a worm out and gobble it up. Yum!!

Frank came over for a visit this afternoon.

A quiet rest of the day.

Laundry tomorrow.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 03.21.2014

Had a pretty good day today, though very busy. I hardly sit down, walking up and down the hall, room to room....   I did get to eat, though, food from home. And no lingering at the table.

At the end of the shift, I was standing, and realized my hips were sore.

Finally clocked out and am home.

Tired tonight--my eyes are rolling around.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 03.20.2014

Another Great Day!!

My turn to "float" -- to pediatrics.

Considered part of our department, though not "my" unit. Just part of our "family".

I really prefer to NOT work there.  You know, sick kids and all.  Seems I get sick around sick kids. Fortunately for me, the three little ones that were there had been on antibiotics for a few days so they were not "catchy" any more. And we had students who were assigned to them. So I was in my comfort zone with an "older" person--a 23 year old with female trouble. (We've been having lots of babies the last couple of days and needed our rooms for the new families.Pediatrics is often where we place our female patients when our beds get tight.)

So I get acclimated and figure out how to do what needs to be done, and am doing it.

About noon, I get called that I need to go back to my own unit to help, and another person from our department is going to take over for me, because she doesn't have the skills to do the new baby testing that needs to be done.

Ooookaaay.

I was busy the rest of the day.  Hearing tests, mostly, but answering call lights, passing pain medicine, doing vital signs. I sat down briefly to document what I had done, then was back down the hall to do something else.

Tonight I'm a little tired, but mostly my feet are tired.  Might be time for new shoes, or at least new inserts.

Tomorrow I'm scheduled to work again.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 03.19.2014

A great day today!!

Other than a drizzly gloom.  The snow is melting, there is ground showing in the yards.  The birds are noisy.

I got a phone call saying I was needed for the last 4 hours of the shift. And just after that phone call, I received a dinner invitation.  Figures....

Busy at the J.O.B.

Get to do it all day tomorrow.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tuesday 03.18.2014

Another Beautiful Day today!!

Went to the hospital for the two meetings.

Back home, fixed my supper and ate, cleaned the kitchen, and a quiet night.

Other than the "stink bug" that flew by my head.  I found it a while later and put it back outside.

Spring. Is. Here. Complete with bugs.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Monday 03.17.2014 Green Day

A lovely sunshiney day today.

And cold.

Single digits this morning; I went out for a walk/run this afternoon with temps in the low 20's.  Good news is that the ice is 98% off of the roads in my neighborhood.

Tomorrow I have a couple meetings.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 03.16.2014

Worked today.

Busy this morning, discharged most of the patients, and the late afternoon/evening we spent tidying up and picking up loose ends. Amazing how the census fluctuates.

Oh, and I got to eat today. *smile*

Tomorrow I hope to sleep in.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 03.15.2014

Worked today.

Steady busy.

The worst part of my job is not being able to eat when I need to.

Tomorrow I get to do it again.

Woo Hoo!!

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 03.14.2014

What a beautiful day today!!

Sunshine, blue skies, and temperature was 52 degrees!!!  Yay!!  The snow is finally melting!!

Diane and I got the the MediLodge about 12:30 today.  Aunt Lois is a "trooper" -- smiling, quiet, polite, even with the discomfort/pain/nausea she is experiencing. What a woman.

I had a lovely drive back home, though the gusty winds pushed at the car.

Unpacked, fixed food and ate, Frank came over for a visit, and I'm ready for work tomorrow.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 03.13.2014

A beautiful day today!!

Even though it was -5 this morning.

I went to the morning meeting, where the "roadblocks" are obvious to all.  Suggestions, ideas, Guess we'll see where it all goes.

I stopped at home to re-group; put overnight bags in the car and headed off to the re-scheduled massage with Leah. It was much needed and much appreciated. My arm was a lot fuller than I thought and now feels 5 pounds lighter.

From there I went to Flint to visit my aunt in the hospital.  It was a beautiful blue sky day, reflecting off the white snow. And the highways were clear and dry, mostly, after the 8 or so inches of snow yesterday.

She's doing as well as expected, with a dislocated "bionic" hip that is not going to be re-seated. And she ended up being transferred to the Rehab place in the afternoon.

I let Diane know I had overnight bags with me if she'd like me to stay---Of course she did!!!

She is playing her baby grand piano, very nicely, I might add, while I write.

Not sure how long I'll stay tomorrow.

Thank you for reading. Hugs

Wednesday 03.12.2014

I had a lot of fun using the snow blower today!!  Surprised that we had about 8 inches on the ground when it finally stopped about 2:30 this afternoon, and surprised that it was so heavy!!

Just shoveling off the steps I knew I was thankful for the snow blower. What a treat to have that machine.

The maintenance people were here (after I was done) and shoveled off the roof. They also shoveled off the driveway again, of the stuff from the roof.

Leah rescheduled me for tomorrow, as the Lansing authorities were asking people not to drive if it wasn't necessary. So I cleaned out the driveway and did laundry instead.

"No Jurors Needed for both Thursday and Friday.  Thank you for serving as Jurors....".

Woo Hoo!!

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tuesday 03.11.2014

What a great day today!!

Temperature made it to 50 degrees! The birds were very noisy this morning when I went out for errands. I stood still and listened. Lovely!!

When I got back, I stayed outdoors and chipped at the last of the ice in the driveway. Almost gone.

Food prep and consumption, cleaned the kitchen.

My new favorite three words:  "No Jurors Needed".

Yay--I can keep my appointment with Leah tomorrow!

That is, if the roads are ok.

Winter storm warning tonight.

Ah, Michigan, I love your weather changes.  Not unlike my own personal temperature changes....

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Monday 03.10.2014

Another weird work day.

Low census, yet still busy enough that I couldn't get supper.

Tired tonight.

"No Jurors Needed".  My new favorite three words.

Errands tomorrow.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 03.09.2014

Good thing I was called this morning to be "on-call". I hadn't changed my bedside clock. (so many are auto-daylight savings time...) Then she called me right back to say I had to come in.

I wasn't late, and we had a nice day with us "old" nurses.  42 years, 38 years, 30 years (me), and 28 years was our experience.

Jury Duty this week for me; I don't have to "report" tomorrow. I'll be able to work my scheduled shift tomorrow.

Tired tonight.

Please pray for Aunt LoLo's dislocated hip AGAIN!!! Just 5 weeks after the most recent dislocation/surgery/rehab event. She had just been home about a week. This is number....7?? They expect to speak with the surgeons tomorrow and hope for surgery on Tuesday, but nothing firm as yet.

May the Peace of  the Lord be with us all.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 03.08.2014

What a gray, flat, day today. The thermometer showed 33, but is sure felt colder.

I went outside in the knee-high boots and wandered around the back yard.  I came across the suet feeder a little ways away from where the hook is. Guess the squirrel couldn't drag it through the snow.  Of course, it was empty. I had bought strawberries the other day that didn't have much flavor--I put them in the feeder. Only saw a nut hatch pecking at it--he didn't stay and eat, so I'm guessing that's not a bird that likes fruit. I didn't see the squirrels this afternoon.

I also chipped away at the remaining ice in the driveway. Got some of it; it will melt eventually.

Frank came over this afternoon/evening for a visit.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Friday 03.07.2014

Oddly busy, though a "better" pace than it has been. Whew.

A visitor came in this afternoon saying how beautiful it was outdoors. "It's warm, the snow is melting...."

Yay!!

When I left this evening, it was 41 degrees. What a nice change.

Not sure what tomorrow will bring.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 03.06.2014

Another lovely day!

Beautiful blue skies---

I went out for a walk this afternoon. The sun was glorious, the wind was the kind that was make-your-forehead-hurt. So half of the walk was comfortable, with the wind at my back.

Noisy birds, snow and ice in the roads barely melting.

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 03.05.2014

A  nice day today.

I was just coming out of the bathroom this morning when the maintenance folks came in. They are taping and mudding. Not very quickly. And they were here only about 3 hours.

This afternoon I went out for errands. The sun was out for a short bit; I was surprised walking across a parking lot that the wind was so cold.

When I got back and looked at the suet feeder, it was----gone.  Like missing.  The squirrel must have gotten it off the shepherd's hook and taken it. There's still 3 feet of snow out there--I'll be walking around the yard and the trees when the snow melts and look for it.

A quiet night.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tuesday 03.04.2014

This morning my alarm (radio) was on for 35 minutes before I heard it. I had to consciously bring my brain to a state of wakefulness. And I chose to be happy for a new day, not frustrated that my sleep was interrupted.

I was able to do everything except eat breakfast, which I prefer to do before going in to the J.O.B. Too many mornings are too busy to count on eating. But I was able to put together a breakfast sandwich (english muffin, cheese, egg, wrapped in waxed paper) and hoped to eat fairly soon. And not in the car. With gloves on. The car hardly warms up before getting to the parking lot, when it's single digits out there.

I was able to (quickly) consume said sandwich about 0730.

We had a busy day, again, juggling rooms between discharges and admissions, scrambling for help. The day felt like a pie crust. Roll it out, piece it together, pat the seams together, shape it, crimp the edges, make it pretty, and wow the guests. Only the ones making it happen really know how it happens.

When I was able to sit down for "lunch" about 3pm, my feet were sore when I stood back up. Yikes. Don't sit down again...

Finally time to leave.

More drywall up in the back room, and tape and mud. The "wet" wall is still open to dry.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Monday, March 3, 2014

Monday 03.03.2014

Whew!!

Busy day today--I was smart enough to mix up an "instant breakfast" (powdered drink mix) when the outlook was not-so-good for me getting time to eat food, and I was starting to get a "hungry headache".  The beverage did the trick in resolving the headache.

I did have time to enjoy my "lunch" later in the afternoon. Mmmm--homemade broccoli soup. The last container of it in my freezer. And it was a remarkably good batch.

Yikes. When I got up my feet hurt. Ugh.  Don't sit down again....

And I was back at it the remainder of the shift.

At home, the snow plow had come by. And the end of my driveway had been cleaned out. Hmm, this is the second time it's happened. Don't know who did it either time, but I thank them very much.

Inside, there is drywall going up on the dry walls. The wet wall is still open, and may be for a while yet. Amazing what a difference insulation and drywall makes.

Tomorrow is another work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

03.02.2014

Woo Hoo!!

6 inches of snow--Blown Away!!

Love the snow blower.  Cleans really nice on the pavement; some areas were melting/drying by the time I got back up the driveway!

Did a little hand shoveling to finish the job, then swept off the machine and left it facing the sun to finish melting and drying. I got the lawn chair and sat up beside the house where the barely-a-breeze was blocked. The sun felt so nice on my face. I pretended I was on the beach with "other" people that I know...  Ahhhh

After a half hour or so, the ocean air was a little cool, and I went inside. After I warmed up, I went back out and put the machine away.

I was fixing my supper when I heard "thumping" and "thudding" noises. I looked--the maintenance people were here shoveling off the roof. They didn't come in to see the areas that are still wet. They'll still be wet tomorrow. The floor is drying out pretty good, and the back door opens without difficulty. Yay!

Tomorrow is a work day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 03.01.2014 In Like A Lion....

Winter Weather Advisories

At least the temps were above 20 degrees today.  Overcast, and the snow started again late afternoon. Yep, I'll be removing snow tomorrow.

Frank came over this afternoon for a nice visit.

I've gotten laundry done, and have another load to do tomorrow.

Stay warm.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.
