Wednesday 08.31.2011

the last day of august. whooshing into fall.

I slept pretty good, intermittently.

Dan golfed, I did a couple loads of laundry and grocered and pharmacied.

We went on our "dinner date", and he left for the trailer shortly after.

I've had a quiet evening at home.

Tomorrow? Hmmm....

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tuesday 08.30.2011

A Good Workday.

On the Overflow unit, with great co-workers.

Yes, we were busy, but we worked well together, and I think all three of us enjoyed the day.

A safe drive home, thank you God.

Dan got home shortly after.

Tomorrow is household chores--laundry, groceries, etc.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 08.27.2011

I had a quiet morning, and in the afternoon I wanted to go into Hale.

I opened the car door, hearing a weak "ding, ding". Uh oh. I moved the electric seat--just a sick motor hum. Dead battery. I saw that the key had been left in the accessory position. Ugh.

I went in and told Frank, then went out and took the van.

When I got back, he had the trickle charger on the car. It wasn't going to start yet, so we left it on until evening, when it did start. So we took the charger off.

Tomorrow is going home day. I'd rather stay another day, but the J.O.B. is what lets me be here in the first place...

Hope the car is ok.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Monday 08.29.2011

I had a great day today, starting with being able to "sleep in" until 0640 instead of 0430. I had a meeting at 0900 and a co-worker wanted the first 6 hours of the day.

A good meeting; I walked over to the credit union and back afterward, then went to the unit and took over.

The discharges were just starting to leave. Within 3 hours, we had just a few patients left. So the remaining couple of hours was fairly quiet.

A safe drive home, thank you God,

Dan was home shortly, and we've had a quiet evening.

Tomorrow is another workday for me.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 08.28.2011 Home, Finally

Whew, what a day!

It started out a cool breezy mostly-white-fluffy-cloud day, with the sun winning out with it's warmth and brightness.

Frank went out for a row, while I finished packing up/cleaning the front bedroom, putting things away in the front room, deflating inflatables, etc. I don't think it will warm enough for swim-time the next time I'm able to be there. *sigh* He was back just as I was starting my breakfast.

We brought the rowboat and paddleboat up and turned them over.

As I ate, he finished the deflatables, putting them away, then took all the rugs outside and shook them.

I vacuumed the front; we talked about taking the speedboat out, and decided we had time to do it. The vehicles had to be moved around--the car to the back door to load, boat trailer out of the big shed, and the van to pick up the trailer and boat.

The car battery was dead again. Ugh.

Frank put the charger on it again, and we tried the engine. It wasn't going to start, so we left the charger on it while doing more of the "going home chores". A while later, we tried again, to no avail. But we decided to go get the boat out anyway, and let the car charge more.

I got the boat uncovered and fired up, instructed Frank on how to put the boat on the trailer (all these years, and he's never put the boat on the trailer) and he set out on the lake. I went to the launch with the van and trailer.

I am very pleased to say that we did an excellent job! We sure needed something to go right...

Back at the JC, we got the power washer out to get the algae stain off the bottom of the boat. That alone didn't cut the stuff, so we used the Toon Bright cleaning solution. That didn't work as well as I had remembered it did, and Frank didn't think so either.

By now, we're working in the sun, out of the wind, and it's pretty warm. The overspray from the powerwasher felt good.

We decided to leave the boat washed, but not washed well, and figure out the vehicle situation.

We charger didn't get the battery up enough this time to start the car, so we moved the boat up the driveway and dropped it, brought the van back around into the garage, and put jumper cables on. The car wouldn't start right away, which surprised both of us. Hm, maybe I'll have to take the van home...

We went back in to finish packing and cleaning.

Vacuumed, refrigerated and dry foods sorted and packed, and we're ready to load something.

I revved the engine on the van, Frank turned the key on the car. It started!! Finally!

Ok. I moved the car to the back door, we moved the boat back down the driveway and into the garage, and covered it. There, garage done.

The rest of the last set of chores done, Frank loaded the car, and we were finally on the road about 5:30 pm. We were both hungry and tired.

We stopped in Rose City, first at the gas station for a test turn-off/restart, which was successful, as well some fuel. $3.85--I didn't fill, just got a few gallons to get back to Lansing where the price would (hopefully) be lower. Next, to the Rose City Cafe.

After we ate the yummy food, and de-stressed a bit, we headed for home.

The car started again (thank you God) and we were off.

An uneventful drive home, thanks again.

Frank helped carry my things in before leaving. We had a great 5 days at the lake.

I have unpacked everything, got work stuff out for morning, washed and dried a load of laundry, and am ready for bed.

Whew!

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Friday 08.26.2011

Bright sunshine woke me this morning--Yay!!

I had breakfast; Dan and Frank went out for breakfast. While they were gone I took a lawn chair down to the dock and sat in the sun. Lovely. The light breeze has an ominous hint of coolness, though.

When they got back, Dan and Frank got the scuba gear out. Tom and KS had come by on their boat ride and stayed to watch Frank get in the water. Dan did a good job instructing, and before long, Frank was face down in the water, exploring. He was all smiles and giggles each time he came up. He explored a catfish hole with Tom (who was in his boat), and when they got back to the dock, Daniel helped him get the equipment off. Grinning and shivering, a day to remember.

T&KS went home for lunch before coming back so that Tom could drive the boat while I water skied. Oh, Yeah. Felt good. Frank skied, too. Thanks, Tom, for taking the time to do that.

They left, Dan left, Frank and I had supper. We had a quiet evening, sitting out in the bug free zone, watching it get dark. Beautiful.

Maybe we'll go snorkeling or something tomorrow.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 08.25.2011

This morning was a disappointing gray sky and light wind, though the weather forecast had been predicted to be clear. I made pancakes with a cooked strawberry/rhubarb sauce and real maple syrup and eggs for breakfast. Yummy.

Tom and KS came down for a visit. They left, and Jeremy did, too. It sure was good to see him.

Daniel had a nice nap in the afternoon, Frank rowed the boat down the lake and back, and I enjoyed the quiet.

After supper at Big Bob's, Dan showed Frank the scuba gear, with plans to get Frank in the water tomorrow. That could be exciting...

I spent the evening at the GC with KS, watching Tom fish, and watching it get dark.

So beautiful here. It has cleared up and quieted down, with temps to drop to the high 40's tonight. The seasons are changing.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 08.24.2011

A great day today.

Dan went golfing, and I went out for a jog to start the day. I was fixing breakfast when Frank came in. I was pleasantly surprised--I wasn't expecting him for another hour yet.

I ate, then showered. Collected what I was going to take back to the lake, loaded the car, and we left. Dan wasn't back yet.

We stopped in Mt. Pleasant to say hello to Diane. I had to laugh, as I drove around and around looking for her building. Silly me--I was looking on the wrong side of the road!! (Ack--sure makes a person feel funny when you kind of recognize where you are....)

We finally got there. I intended to stay for only a few minutes, but she took us back to where the breastfeeding support staff were, and we got to talking about their handouts and such. I came away with some good stuff to take to our committee meeting. Thanks, Ladies!

From there Frank and I went on to Meijer. That was a little longer than intended, also, but we were finally on our way.

We arrived at the JC about 5:30. Jeremy had arrived earlier, and was at the GC; Dan had arrived about 20 minutes before we did.

We unloaded the car, and Frank had the groceries put away and dinner started while I was communicating with the GC. It wasn't long before Jeremy was coming back in the paddleboat, and T&KS were at the back door. We were eating grilled steaks, mashed potatoes, garden zucchini steamed, and corn on the cob by 6:30. Awesome!! Oh, yeah, I had put together a banana cream pie, too!

We enjoyed each other's company. Jeremy and Tom went out fishing, KS & I did dishes, and Frank and Dan did what they did. KS went on to her parents, and I watched it get dark in the 60 degree bug free zone.

It was a great evening.

Thank you God for letting us all be together.

And thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tuesday 08.23.2011

Daniel's phone rang at 0300. I had been (finally) sleeping, but didn't sleep again. The alarm let me get up.

At the J.O.B., it was my turn to "float". Ugh. I dug deep to find a better attitude, and went over to Labor and Delivery. Yes, it's a "sister" unit, but I don't like working there. Unpredictable and chaotic.

I did my best, doing what I could. I was relieved to hear that we were going to have to open the overflow unit, with the two of us who had floated off being called back to do so. Ahhh, home. Even though it was 3 pm, the relief I felt still surprises me. Thank you God for getting me through this day.

A safe drive home, thanks again.

Dan got home a bit later.

Tomorrow we go to The Lake. Yippee!!!

Hope I can sleep tonight....

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Monday 08.22.2011

I thought for sure I would sleep good last night, but I didn't. The afternoon got long at the J.O.B.

We weren't too terribly busy, and that was a good thing.

Dan came home tonight, looking forward to having a few days off, and going to The Lake!! Me too!!

Tomorrow is a workday for me, and of course, he'll be golfing.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 08.21.2011

This morning was quiet--a thin overcast cloud cover, though not gloomy, and it kind of cleared. After breakfast, we were gathering our belongings and doing the "closing chores" when a cool wind blew in, bringing a squall with it. It rained for maybe 15 minutes. It amazes me to see the pavement and roofs of buildings steaming after a short rain like that.

We got on the road about 2:45 and had an uneventful trip home, thank you God. A couple of stops later, we were in Holt just after 6 pm. To my (pleasant?) surprise, they sang Christmas Carols for quite a while. Of course, I joined them, amazing them with my knowledge of not only the first verse, but the third verses too. *smile*

I was glad to be home. They continued on their way. I started laundry, fixed supper and ate. And then I got tired.

Tomorrow is a workday, and Dan will be home tomorrow night. *smile again*

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 08.20.2011

Thunderstorm this morning, with light rain. Then intermittent light rain throughout the day, until 4 o'clock or so. The sky finally cleared this evening, and it is a beautiful 60 degree night.

We three girls set out to go to the Fish (resale) store, stopping at a garage sale on the way. It turned out to be a good thing--Sandy found lots of (warm) clothing items for the both of them.

On to the Fish store, where she found a bunch more stuff, including a vacuum cleaner, complete with bags and belts.

Back home, supper and the cool evening on the deck, sans bugs.

Tomorrow it's back home.

I've felt pretty good overall, other than the hot flashes that are still persistent. Ugh.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Friday 08.19.2011

A great day today.

I slept fairly well again and went out for a jog this morning. Shower, breakfast, and Sandy and Allison arrived. I finished gathering the few things that needed to go back to the lake, and we loaded the car and left.

We had a good drive, stopping a couple of times, finally arriving at the JC about 4 pm. 84 degrees with a light breeze. Beautiful!!!

After the car was unloaded, we went over to the Bear's Den for yummy supper. Back at the lake, I started a fire while Allison collected snails in the lake. J&P joined us as we watched it get dark. Lovely.

Sandy put a movie in; Allison and I were each on a computer. I've been trying to catch up on my internet reading.

No plans for tomorrow. Hope the weather is great....

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 08.18.2011

I had a great morning! Started early waking to the thunderstorm, then wondered why I was seeing a light. Seems we had a flash of a loss of electricity. And when that happens we have a light that comes on. And of course the clocks without battery back-up blink. I went back to sleep knowing that my bedside clock has a battery, and that the power was on. And that I didn't have to get up until 0800, because someone agreed to work for me this morning to cover me for a meeting.

So when the radio came on at 0758, I had been sleeping, but it was a glorious morning. Sunshine, birdsong. I got ready and drove to Jackson with sunglasses on.

A good meeting, then out to the floor. The afternoon turned out to be pretty busy.

After work I had my haircut, then home and a shower. I was surprised that the wounds/scars sloughed again. They get flaky and itchy then shed. Strange.

Tomorrow I'm going back Up North with Sandy and Allison for the weekend.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 08.17.2011

Back to work. It went pretty well, overall. I will say that I was happy to leave though.

I stopped over to Sandy's apartment for a short visit. It was nice to see her and Allison.

A safe drive home, thank you God.

Finished another load of laundry, cleaned and filled the hummingbird feeder, wrote here. I'm kind of tired tonight.

Tomorrow is a meeting in the morning, then working "the floor" the rest of the day.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tuesday 08.016.2011

Well, I did it. I went home.

Didn't really want to; it's so beautiful at the lake. And the temps were low/mid 80's, mostly clear blue skies, and a very light breeze. Ahhh...

I was mostly done with the "going home chores" and decided to walk to the GC to wait for J&P, who were due to arrive "early afternoon", and I wanted to visit with Anne W. too.

I was there a little longer than I had planned, but had a nice visit with AW. J&P hadn't arrived yet; I was sad to have missed them.

So I went back to finish the loose ends. Jim called, saying they had arrived, and would be down shortly. Ok!!

They arrived as I was putting the boat back together, and getting the cover on. We visited while I finished up inside, and they helped me carry stuff out to the car. I was on my way about 4 pm.

An uneventful drive home, thank you God. Dan was home and helped me unload. I've fixed supper for us and finished a load of laundry, with a couple more yet to do.

Tomorrow is a workday. Dan will probably golf.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Monday 08.15.2011

Today was another beautiful day at The Lake.

The sun finally came out in a clear blue sky, with just a light, ripple-y breeze. Temps made it to 79 this afternoon.

I contemplated going home, but found things to do...

First off, exercise. Went out for a jog.

Then, I had to open the boat to let it dry out after being left open in the rain. I'll have to open it again tomorrow, too, as the back half isn't quite dry.

I sat on the dock in a lawn chair, soaking up some sun. Had to. Seriously.

Then I got warm, so I had to go in the lake. And since I had to, I got the mask and fins and snorkel and laid sideways across an air mattress to look for the catfish. HAD TO!!

I didn't find the catfish, though.

Got out of the lake, showered, put things on the clothesline, time to eat.

After supper and picking up the house, with the eye of going home tomorrow, I went over and invited my neighbor to enjoy our screen room and watch it get dark.

We did that, which was most enjoyable. The moon came up and smeared it's orange-yellow colors across the lake. Beautiful.

Tomorrow I HAVE TO go home. But I get to come back Friday.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 08.14.2011

What a Day!!

A very laid-back morning, girls in jammies until noon. Overcast, cool, breezy. Great day to go home.

I walked down to the GC to see Amber et al, and took a walk with Gia and SheaLynn, getting them out from underfoot while the adults were trying to do "going home chores". We had a fun walk, stopping at the JC before going back.

I returned the little girls, came back to the JC where my girls were finishing up, ready to leave. Hugs and smiles; looking forward to doing it again.

When they were gone, I was surprised that I walked around and around, wondering "what do to now?"

I went out for a walk, realized I was hungry, so had something to eat.

The wind has died down, the sky cleared with yesterday's full moon rising in front of me, and I'm enjoying the bug-free zone.

Sure is quiet here.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 08.13.2011

It's been a great 2 days.

We've boated, water skied, walked in the lake, ate, napped, walked, had a campfire, fished, ate, talked, cried, laughed till we cried, ate, sat out in the screen room a lot. It rained most of the day today, and it's only low 60's, but we still had a great day.

Tomorrow will be going home day for the other girls; I'm staying a day or two yet.

I've been feeling pretty good mostly, other than a migraine wanna-be this morning. I was finally able to stretch my neck and shoulder and the pain went away. Woo Hoo!! Praise the Lord!!

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday, August 11, 2011

Thursday 08.11.2010

Wow! What a great day!!

Diane was up and fishing when I got up. Blue skies, intermittent clouds, temps cool this morning (low 50's) getting to low 80's, then cooling back off after sunset to long pants, socks, shoes, and long sleeves/sweatshirt.

After I breakfasted, Diane and I swept the exteriors of both the garage and the house. Thank you Diane. I was able to visit with Evelyn while Diane "did her thing".

I finally got to rake the side of the house where the lilies-of-the-valley are. It is the last part of the Spring Clean-up that has taken me this long to be able to. It looks so much better. I got it burned, too, starting a bed of embers for an evening fire.

Sue, Cindy, and Judy arrived about 2:30.

Yippee!!! Everyone is here now!!!

We all helped get the vehicle unloaded, forming a basic chain and passing it into the house. It's good to see them. They were all smiling.

We have visited, laughed, eaten, sat around a fire, watched the nearly-full moon in a clear sky, and listened to the lake.

Life is good.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 08.10.2011

A fair night's sleep, Dan got up, did whatever he did, and went off for golf. I had heard him up, even spoke to him a minute, and heard the door close.

I slept a little while longer, then got up and went for a jog.

A beautiful morning--low to mid 60's and sunny, with clouds moving in.

I cooled off, had breakfast, showered, packed, did 3 loads of laundry throughout the morning, and went to Meijer.

When I got back, I sorted the foods, packed the cooler, and had lunch, hoping that Daniel would be home before I left for the lake.

Even though I dawdled, I was ready to go, and did. I was sad to have missed him.

A safe drive north, thank you God. I arrived at the JC about 5:30. Windy, partly cloudy skies, high 60's. The wind died down as evening fell, and so did the temps.

Diane arrived about 8 pm. We got her unloaded and somewhat settled, and walked to the GC to see who was there. Tom! We watched the sunset from there before walking back.

We had a bite to eat, then went out in the screen room to enjoy the night.

Totally Awesome!

Life is Good.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tuesday 08.09.2011

It was hard to get up this morning for work. But I did.

And fortunately, we had a very good day, with my wonderful co-workers.

Safe driving, thank you God, and back home.

Daniel wasn't home from golf yet; I started getting things together to go to The Lake tomorrow.

Yippee!!

I'm tired tonight. Hope I sleep well.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Sunday 08.07.2011 75th Gushen Family Reunion

A lovely day...

Frank arrived at my house, and we rode together to Imerman Park to gather and gab and grub. We had a wonderful day--low to mid 80's and a slight breeze that kept the pavilion from being stuffy. Not as good of a turn-out as one would think, being the 75th year and all. But there were a few family members that hadn't been in many years, as well as my uncle's wife, who flew in from Utah to visit. That was really nice. Renee had brought a photo album of Arthur, who is declining (rapidly?) in a care home out there. I appreciate the efforts. Thank you Renee.

We had a safe drive home, thank you God, and did not get into any of the weather that had been predicted.

We got the car unloaded and I divvied up the food between Frank and myself, cleaning up the kitchen again. We visited a bit before he continued on his way home.

And I've had a quiet evening. A couple phone calls, I wrote here, and I'll be off to bed for a workday tomorrow.

I'm feeling pretty good overall, just a little achey tonight. And some of these hot flashes have been intense. I'll sure be glad when my body temperature stabilizes.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Saturday 08.06.2011

Another great day!

Even though it was overcast, gloomy, humid, and very warm, I had a good day.

After breakfast I picked up the house, used the portable Oreck vacuum cleaner and did around all the edges, baseboards, tracks for the sliding door, etc., and used the upright to do the remainder of the rooms. Then replaced furniture and stuff. I've also dusted and done laundry and took the trash to the compactor.

I realized I was hungry--it was past time to eat.

Just as I finished my food, Daniel called. We had a nice conversation while I prepared the veggies for the marinated salad I'm taking to the Gushen Reunion, our 75th.

I was pretty sore this morning through my hips. I finally took tylenol and motrin, with good results.

Tomorrow is the Reunion. I hope the weather is good.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Friday 08.05.2011

A lovely day!

I got to "sleep-in" until 7:45, but I got up about 0730, as I was awake. I had time to shower, and I did.

After breakfast I went to Jackson, ready to work after the meeting. We had a good meeting. After I had changed shoes (I have "dedicated" shoes that I only wear at the hospital) and went out on the floor, I found out that the person that covered for me this morning was "on-call", and so was I.

Oh, ok. I went to both units to see if they needed help, since I was there, but they were fine with their numbers and staff.

Yippee! an unexpected afternoon off!!

I went home, got the grocery list, and went to Meijer. And since I was getting things I only buy infrequently, I had to look for the items, and read the labels and such. So I was there almost 2 hours.

Then I had to stand in line about 20 minutes to get checked out.

Back home, I had supper after putting those items away, then went out on the balcony and cleaned out the storage closet out there. Odd, I know, to have a storage room out there. It's got a light in it, too.

The rest of the evening was quiet.

My hips are a little sore today, probably from jogging 2 days in a row after working 2 days. It usually gets better after a day or two of rest.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Thursday 08.04.2011

A fair sleep.

I spent the afternoon in Jackson with Sandy and Allison, starting at Anna's for lunch, then over to the Toy House browsing around. We stopped at Loomis Park on the way back to their apartment. We had a nice afternoon.

Back home, I caught up on email, went out for a jog, and had a bite to eat after I cooled down.

Shower, and on my way to bed.

Workday tomorrow.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Wednesday 08.03.2011

I started out the gloomy, overcast, light breezy day with a jog. The temperature has finally eased up; it was "only" 75 degrees.

Daniel took each of our vehicles to refuel, while I bathed and breakfasted before my appointment with Leah. Thank you, Dan!

Leah did a fabulous job, as always.

A dinner date with my husband and a Board Meeting was the afternoon/evening, and tonight Dan has gone back over to the trailer.

Tomorrow I'm going to lunch with The Girls.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.

Tomorrow I see Leah, who will rejuvenate me.

Monday 08.01.2011

Back to work.

We had a good day, with a good group.

The drive there and back was ok, thank you God.

After work I drove out to John W's, Frank's roommate, to give him the title for the Sea Doo. He had it in the garage, tinkering with it. He found that the 2 hoses that make the engines water cooled each had a puncture wound. Those are repaired, and a couple other small things, and he was grinning as he told me about taking it out on Lake Michigan! I'm glad he's enjoying the boat.

Dan was home when I got home, and we chatted a bit before turning in for the night.

I work tomorrow; he golfs.

I'm really tired tonight.

Thank you for reading. Hugs.
